Production of Hygienic Tissue

Paper Using Malunggay Leaves

(Moringa oleifera)

PASCUAL, REBEKAH MAE V.

RESEARCHER
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Malunggay (Moringa oleifera)

• Its leaves contains antibacterial properties and

nutritional values that are beneficial to one's
health.
• Also contains lignin and holocellulose fibers
that are needed in the production of paper
products.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
• The main goal of this study is to investigate
the possibility of producing tissue paper from
malunggay leaves.

• This is an experimental study that will make

use of a Completely Randomized Design
(CRD).
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
• The three most important components of pulp in producing
paper products are cellulose fibers, hemicellulose fibers,
and lignin (Danielsson, 2006)

• A study in Uttar Pradesh, India, found that Malunggay

leaves contain 65.5% holocellulose fibers (a mixture of
cellulose and hemicellulose fibers) and 20.5% lignin
(Sharma et al., 2021).
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To produce a Malunggay Tissue Paper.
1

To test its physical qualities in terms of its

2 absorbency, softness, and strength.

To determine if there is a significant

difference between the malunggay tissue
3 paper and the commercial tissue paper.
METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN

COMPLETEL It is a type of experimental

Y design in which the
RANDOMIZE experimental units are
D DESIGN distributed to the different
(CRD) treatments  randomly.
METHODOLOGY
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES

PHASE 1:
COLLECTION • 500g of malunggay leaves will be
harvested.
AND
• The leaves will be examined and washed
PREPARATION by running tap water.
OF • The leaves will be air-dried for at least ten
MALUNGGAY minutes.
LEAVES
METHODOLOGY
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES

• The leaves will be boiled using 2 liters of

PHASE 2: distilled water in low heat (120°C).
PRODUCTIO • The leaves will be transferred to a blender
N OF along with 750ml of water used for boiling
MALUNGGAY to create the pulp.
• The malunggay pulp will be strained and
PULP squeezed until there are no excess water.

METHODOLOGY
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES

• The malunggay pulp will be broken down

PHASE 3: by hand in a 4-liter distilled water in a
PRODUCTIO large tub.
N OF • The pulp will be strained using a paper
MALUNGGAY making screen (11”x 8”) and will be
transferred to a fabric.
TISSUE • The malunggay sheet will be left to air-dry
PAPER in a room temperature for 12-24 hours.
