STARTED

• In 1976, Larry Mullen Jr, that was 14 years


old, posted a paper on the school’s notice
asking if someone wanted to join him to
start a band.
• At least 5 people joined their band: Bonno,
The Edge and his older brother, Adam and
a friend of Larry. David’s brother and
Larry’s friend left the band after a while.
• The band was called “Feedback” untill
1977, when they’ve changed to “The
hype”. In 1978, they decided to change the
band’s name to “U2”, that is their name
untill nowadays

BECOME FAMOUS

• They started their career with “Boy” (1980). This


album was about teenagers’ problems and
frustrations.
Boy (1980) October (1981) • “October” (1981) was about religious conflicts
• “War”(1983) was a completely different album
because it is a political album.
• They released songs like “Sunday Bloody Sunday”,
that was about the horror felt by a person that saw
the 1972 Bloody Sunday incident where British
troops shot and killed unarmed civil rights
War protesters, and “New Year’s Day”, that is about a
(1983) Polish Solidarity movement, were the most famous
songs in the album

was about the atomic bomb of
Hiroshima
• “The Joshua Tree” (1987) talked The Joshua tree (1987)
about the love and hate happening
in America.

WHAT “CHANGES” DID THEY
MAKE IN MUSIC’S HISTORY?

• U2 is a band that talk about many problems in the world by singing.


• It is a great way to transmit that and that was and still is a big change in
the music’s history.
• It is true that many other singers did songs about the world’s problems
too, but U2 made a big change because the albums became famous.
U2 CHARITY HELP

• The band has helped some charity


companies by playing in many concerts and
they raised the concerts’ money for
important causes.
• Bono's work with ONE and RED has
helped fight against poverty and the AIDS
epidemic.
