DEFINATION.
. It is an Instrument used to prevent
mobilization. Made from layers of
plaster or fiber glass.It is used to
bandage the affected limb.
PURPOSE.
 Prevent movement (immobilize) &
encourages bone healing process
 patient is able to move early ' non weight
bearing'.
 corrects deformity eg: CTEV.
 maintains anatomical position of the
bone.
 Corrects and prevents complications eg:
'foot drop'.
Plaster Cast.
Plaster cast is made from'synthetic’
material and white calcium powder.
'synthetic product
 Made from mixture of fabric with highly sensitive
thermoplastic resin or fiber glass.This material is
strong and light and durable eventhough it gets
wet. But it has to be dried to avoid skin irritation.
Plaster of Paris ( POP)
 Looks like white powder( Calcium sulphate) made
from gypsum(extracts water out). POP bandage is
made with mixing crinoline with plaster.
TYPES OF PLASTER CAST.

Indication:
# distal radius / ulna.

Cast Brace’s Cylindrical – Long /Short.
Indication: stable # Distal femur (2 section- upper /
lower knee. Has two angle for ROM
