compass bearing, compass bearing, and
true bearing.

 Apply the knowledge in bearing to solve

real life word problems.
What are bearings ?

 Bearings are used to locate the position of objects

or the direction of a journey on a two-dimensional
horizontal plane.
What are bearings ?

 Bearings or directions are straight lines from one

point to another.
What are bearings ?

 To find bearings, a compass rose (N, S, E and W)

should be drawn centered on the point from where
the bearing measurement is taken.

 b) 310ᴼT
 c) SSW (and its corresponding angle)
APPLICATION

A boat sails from port A for 15 km on

a bearing of N15°E before turning and
sailing for 21 km in a direction of
S75°E to port B. What is the distance
between the ports A and B.
GROUP WORK
Captain Cook sailed from Cook Island on a bearing of 010°T
for 100 km. He then changed direction and sailed for a further
50 km on a bearing of SE to reach a deserted island.
a. How far from Cook Island is Captain Cook’s ship (correct to
the nearest kilometer)?
b. Which direction would have been the most direct route from
Cook Island to the deserted island (correct to 2 decimal
places)?
c. How much shorter would the trip have been using the direct
route?
Homework: Bring a compass, markers
