Use of A
Consonant sound:
Alphabet-(vowel sounds) = Alphabet-(A,E,I,O,U)

We use A before nouns which start with consonant sound.

For example:
A pen , A clock , A toy .
Use of An
Vowel sounds:
A,E,I,O,U

We use AN before nouns which starts with a vowel sound.

For example:
An apple , An egg , An orange.
Rules formation
A: Use a before nouns beginning from consonants. The indefinite
article has no plural form.
Example: a red pen

An: Use an before nouns beginning from vowels. Use an before


consonants with vowel sound. ( an hour)
Example: an apple.
