What is Our Obligation?


Romans 1:1-16
Introduction:
• Paul was the author of the Book of Romans, miraculously
converted while on his way to Damascus to arrest Christians to
that city, after that Paul begun proclaiming the gospel message.
• Paul was responsible for the spread of Christianity throughout the
Roman Empire.
• He was arrested and suffered Matyrdom at rome in ca. A.D. 65-
67.
• Paul wrote Romans from Corinth.
• Paul’s primary purpose in writing Romans was to teach the great
truths of the Gospel to believers.

Romans 1: 1

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an


apostle and set apart for the Gospel of God.
Romans 1: 5

Through him and for his name sake, we


received grace and apostleship to call people
from among all the Gentiles to the obedience
that comes from faith.
Romans 1: 14

I am obligated both to Greeks and non-


Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.
Romans 1: 15

That is why I am so eager to preach the


Gospel also to you who are at Rome.

That is why I am so eager / I am ready to


preach the gospel also to you who are at
Rome.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:


for it is the power of God for the Salvation of
everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then
for the Gentile.
II. The Mark of our Salvation. vv. 8-10

A. A life that is Devoted in Thankfulness to God. v. 8

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for


all of you, because your faith is being
reported all over the world.

God, whom I serve with my whole heart in


Preaching the gospel of his Son, is my
witness how constantly I remember you in
my prayers at all times.

C. A life that is Devoted in Prayers to God v. 9, v. 10

my prayers at all times.

Pray without ceasing.

I pray that now at last by God’s will the way


may be opened for me to come to you.

Motivation - “The general desire or willingness of someone to do something.”

A. A. To Encourage and Edify the people v. 11, v. 12


Romans 1: 11

I long to see you so that I may impart to you


some spiritual gift to make you strong.
Romans 1: 12

That is, that you and I may be mutually


encouraged by each other's faith.
III. The Motivation of our Salvation vv.11-17
Motivation - “The general desire or willingness of someone to do something.”

A. To Encourage and Edify the people v. 11, v. 12

B. To Impart our Labor to the people . v. 13


Romans 1: 13

I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that


I planned many times to come to you (but have
been prevented from doing so until now) in
order that I might harvest among you, just as I
have had among the other Gentiles.

Conclusion:
• As Christians, we are called by God to PREACH, LIVE and DIE
for the Gospel in order to ENCOURAGE, EDIFY, SERVE and
HELP the people.

• As Christians, we should devote ourselves with gratitude and


prayer in our service to God.
Application:
• Do you obey the Great commission? Do you
evangelize?

• Do you pray for the faith of our brethren?

• Do you care for everyone?
