Domestic
Kentuck Knob. Private usonian summer house
designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Western PA
which features his connection to nature at the
center of the house and everything around it. Built
from 1953-56.
Religious
Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.
It is a large 12th century church which
began construction in 1163 and finally
opened in 1345. Architects:Jean-
Baptiste-Antoine Lassus, and Pierre de
Montreuil
Governmental
Parliament House of Australia. Located
in the center of the Australian Capital
Territory (ACT). Construction started on
November 12 in 1981 and opened up
for use on May 9th 1988 and was
designed by Romaldo Giurgola.
Recreational
PNC park is a MLB stadium located in
Pittsburgh PA. Built in March of 2001
and designed by Louis D. Astorino has
been the home stadium for the
Pittsburgh Pirates since its opening.
Welfare and Education
Swanson School of Engineering-
University of Pittsburgh. Founded in
1846 but newly built on the site of the
old building in 2017 designed and based
on one of Emily Swanson’s, (a member
of the Swanson family) school projects
from when she attended the University
of Pittsburgh.
Commercial and Industrial
Opened in 1881 the Homestead Steel
Mill located in South Western PA was
one of the largest steel mills in the
world. While one of Andrew Carnegie’s
advisors designed the plant as a plant
architect all architectural credit was
given to Andrew Carnegie who
ultimately told his advisor what the plant
needed to look like. The plant closed in
1986 and only some parts of the plant
remain today.
