-used for completed action.

It is called perfective form. Perfect means
completed.
 I / have seen / this film many times.
have-en/ed see

She / has performed / her programme well.

have-en/ed perform

They / had already reached / home very well.

have-en/ed reach
Have you seen this film many times?
How many times have you seen this film?
I have not seen this film many times.

Change the following into interrogative and

negative sentences.

1.She has performed her programme well.

2.They had borrowed money from the bank.
‘Have’ main verb

 Read these sentence.

 I have a car.  I have bath.

 She has a palace
 They had an estate.
 In the above sentences have is
used as main verb in possessive
sense
 She has lunch
 They had tea.
 In the above sentences have is
used as main verb in action sense
• When ‘have’ is used as main verb, the auxiliary
verbs are ‘do’ forms.

In possessive sense the auxiliary verbs ‘do’ forms

are non functional. So we have sentences.
 Have you any car?
 Has she any house at Anna nagar?
 Had they any estate?
He has no car.
 She has no money.
 They had no factory .
 In action sense ,“do’ forms are
functional
 Do you have bath?
Does she have lunch?
 Did they have tea?
I do not have bath.
 She does not have lunch.
 They did not have breakfast.
 In possessive sense ‘have ‘ as main
verb does not take progressive
form.
 I am having a car( Incorrect)
 She is having a house at Anna
nagar.( Incorrect)
 They are have a factory.
( incorrect)
 In action sense ‘have ‘ as main
verb, progressive form is used.
 I am having bath.
 She is having breakfast.
 They are having tea.
Cooccurrence:

‘Do’ forms do not co-occur with any other

auxiliary verb.
‘be-ing’ and ‘have-en/ed’ can go together. In
that case, ‘have-en/ed’occupies the initial
position.

I /have been working/ in this office for six years.
