PLASTIC WASTE
FOR INTERNAL USE

Brief summary Plastic Waste

Recovery Plan

Plastic materials are present in practically all aspects of

our life, so the production and transformations industry
is one of the largest on a global scale.
The correct management of large amounts of waste
plastics produced, is one of the big challenge that
society have actually. The most abundant plastics in
urban solid waste, due to their applications in containers
and packaging, are the polyethylene. For this reason, in
recent years there has been an increase in interest in the
energy recovery processes of polyethylene. One of
them, is called the thermal cracking, that deserves
special attention, since it allows to obtain a mixture of
paraffinic/olefinic waxes.

ORIGIN AND CHEMICAL CONSTITUTION

 The term "plastic" derives from the Greek word

“plastikos” and refers to the ability that presents a
material to adopt the most diverse forms when it is
processed; so that, according to this etymological
meaning, a great variety of materials can be defined
as plastics. Currently this name has lost its original
meaning and applies more specifically to polymers of
mainly organic nature, being able to be of synthetic
or natural origin and modified by man for a specific
purpose.

The deposit cycle has two parts

 The External cycle: this has been

between consumer and trade.
 The Internal cycle: this has been
between the trade ambassadors and
recoverers.
The final balance between the two cycles
compensates the two parties involved.

plastic deposit

It means that there is an economic value

associated with each pack, an incentive
for that plastic pack to return to the
production chain in the best conditions
for recycling and this amount is not a tax
or an extra cost, but rather an advance.

CLASSIFICATION
OF PLASTICS

§ Thermoplastics: are known as those plastics that melt at

high temperatures, so they can be molded into different
shapes when subjected to them. When they cool down, they
hold up, retaining the shape they've been given.
§ Thermosets: the main difference between thermosets and
thermoplastics is that the former can only be melted and
molded once (at the time of manufacture). Once cooled,
when heated again they burn instead of melting, making it
impossible to work them again.
§ Elastomers: as its name indicates, the main characteristic of
elastomers is their elasticity, which allows them to recover
their initial shape after being deformed.

USE OF PLASTICS

At the present time it is difficult to imagine that any of

the sectors of our daily life could do without plastics.
Just look at our around and analyze how many objects
are made of plastic to visualize the important
economics of these materials.
In addition, plastics will continue to grow in use
because each time they cover more of the market,
even replacing glass, paper and metals, due to their
good properties and their satisfactory cost-benefit
ratio.
