Introduction

A sanitary sewer or foul sewer is an underground carriage system

specifically for transporting sewage from houses and commercial
buildings through pipes to treatment facilities or disposal. Sanitary
sewers are part of an over all system called as a sewage system or
sewerage.
The following procedure is adopted

1. Formation of zones
2. Arrangement of sewers.
3. Quantity of sewers.
4. Velocity of flow.
5. Selection of sewer.
1. Formations of zones

1. The area to be served by the drainage system

is divided into different zones.
2. The zones are marked on the map and the
contours are also drawn on the map.

2. Arrangement of sewer

1. The low laying areas are isolated and pumping

stations are installed for them.
2. The flow of sewage starts from high level zones.
3. Quantity of sewage

1. The quantity of sewage to be carried by the sewer is determined.

2. After proper study of variations in rate of sewage, a suitable
multiplying factor is applied to arrive at the quantity of sewage for
which sewer is to be designed.

4. Velocity of flow

A suitable value for the velocity of flow is then

determined. This value should fall between the
minimum and maximum limit.
5. Selection of sewer
The selection of sewer is then easily worked out by relation.
Quantity of sewage = area of sewer x velocity of flow

conclusion -
By this PPT the design of sewer is introduced.
