ABSTRACT
1. Bitumen is a binding material used in construction projects like road surfacing, airports
runway, parking lots etc.

2. This is primarily because of their excellent binding characteristics and water proofing
property. It has adhesive in nature.

3. In this research work waste plastic (LOW DENSITY POLYTHENE) like as- Sanchi milk
pouch and PVC dust is used like a supplementary material of bitumen.

4. To reduce the amount of bitumen in bituminous concrete supplementary material are used.

5. To fulfill the objective of this study, first of all waste polythene (Sanchi milk pouch) was
collected from local tea stall in Bhopal. And shredded in 3 mm size. Waste PVC dust was
collected from Govindpura industrial area.

6. After a total of 04 (Four) modified binders are prepared with 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%
waste plastic and PVC dust respectively content to perform the test of Penetration,
Ductility, Softening point, Marshall stability test.
INTRODUCTION
1.Demands of roads are increasing year by year. Ever increasing numbers of commercial vehicles with
increased axle loads take and it is clear that this trend will continue in the future.

2.The addition of polymers to enhance service properties in road paving application considerd a long time
ago. Now a days has become a real alternative.

3.In
recent years, one of the global and environmental problems is the landfill disposal of polymer waste
material(PWM).

4.Polyvinyle
chloride (PVC) is the world’s most produced synthetic polymer. It has chemical formula-
(C2H3CL)n.

5.PVC is used in construction for pipe, doors, window, bottles etc.

6.Polythene is most common plastic in use today. It has chemical formula-(C2H4)n. Polythene is classified
by its density.
7.
8.Very low density polythene(VLDPE), low density polythene(LDPE), Medium density
polythene(MDPE), High density polythene(HDPE).
LITERATURE RIVIEW
Amit kumar sarkar (2019) In this investigation, examine and compare the effect of waste plastic mainly
High density polythene(HDPE) and Low density polythene(LDPE) in base bitumen. The bitumen used
60/70 penetration grade and 1%,2%,3%,4% various percentage of LDPE and HDPE by weight of
bitumen were prepared and tested. It was observed that bitumen with HDPE has more impact on
Penetration, Softening, Marshall stability than LDPE and find optimum binder content 4% of
HDPE.

Henok addissie (2018) The object of this research the performance of plastic modification
bitumen. 40/50 and 80/100 penetration grade bitumen used in this research. PVC modified (40/50),
LDPE modified (40/50) and PVC modified (80/100), LDPE modified(80/100) were prepared with
1%,3%,5%,7% various percentage of PVC and LDPC respectively. PVC and LDPE modified
binder have 3% PVC and 5% LDPE of both bitumen gradation 40/50, 85/100 better result.

Adity a. Lanjewar (2016) In this study 60/70 penetration grade bitumen used with
3%,5%,7%,9%,11%,12%, 20% of various percentage of LDPE by weight of bitumen and conduct
Penetration, Softening test for each sample. Use of higher % of plastic waste reduce the need of
bitumen by 11%.
Md. Nobinur rehman(2013) In this study waste polythene(LDPE) and PVC used as
short polymer to investigate the potential prospects to enhance asphalt mixture
properties 80/100 gradation bitumen used with 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 12%, 12.5%,
15%, 17.5% ,20% various percentage of PVC and polythene also And tested. It is
conclude that up to 10% waste plastic and 7.5% of PVC modifier bitumen can be used
in flexible pavement.

Behl at.al. (2012) In this study PVC pipe waste has been used as a modifier up to a
level of 3% and 5% with bitumen 80/100 penetration grade bitumen in making
bituminous product for paving application. And result indicts that 5% PVC pipe waste
can be used successfully in road construction.

METHODOLOGY
Selection of waste plastic (LDPE) like as milk pouch and PVC dust with grade of bitumen
60/70.

 Prepare 2.5%,5%,7% 10% various combination of bitumen, LDPE and PVC dust by
weight of bitumen.

 Using the wet mix process to find the Penetration, Ductility, Softening value of mixture at
different proportion.

 Perform Marshall Stability test of sample at 0%,2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% of PVC dust and
polythene respectively.
 In this research work:-

Basic materials used are as follows.

 Aggregates(12.5mm , 10mm ,4.75mm, 2.63mm)

 Bituminous Binder- 60/70 penetration grade.

 Low density Polythene like as Sanchi milk pouch shredded in size-3mm.

 PVC Dust- 100–180μm.

OBJECTIVE

The main objectives of the present study are.

1. A combine analysis can be done by Testing of bitumen with PVC and Polythene.

2. To evaluate the effect of plastic with bitumen and effect of strength of bitumen .

3. Development of a suitable result which deal with strength of bitumen with PVC
And polythene.

Conclusions
 It is observed that Penetration value 48mm at 5% of polythene and
5% of PVC dust are under of the specified value as per IS 73:2013.
 The Ductility value at 7.5% addition of polythene and 7.5% of PVC
dust gives the 51.14 cm which is under the specified value as per IS
73.2013.
 The Softening test value at 10% addition of polythene and 10% of
PVC dust gives the 71.2°C which is under the specified value as per IS
73.2013.
 It is observed that Marshall stability value at 5% polythene and 5%
PVC dust gives maximum stability.
 we observe that the Marshall flow value at 5% polythene and 5%pvc
gives the minimum value(2.63) as per IRC SP 79-2008.
 Bitumen with 10 % replacement by 5% Polythene and 5 % PVC dust
give the most durable result.
Future scope of the study
 In this study LDPE and PVC taken, but there is many more scope to
check the durability using other material like waste polymer like as
HDPE.
 This study is carried out only up to 10 % .Other percentage of Plastic
and PVC content can be added to check the variations in the strength
of Bitumen for Flexible pavement construction.
