INTRODUCTION

• Badminton is derived directly from Poona, which was played by


British army officers stationed in India in the 1860s.

• The first unofficial all-England badminton championship for men


was held in 1899, and the first badminton tournament for women
was arranged the next year.

• Badminton was just a game played for fun, and it was known as
''battledore and shuttlecock '' in British India instead of Badminton

• Battledore and shuttlecock were first played in England in 1873.

• Upper-class people used it.

• The Duke of Beaufort introduced the game in 1873 at his Gloucestershire


mansion, now known as "Badminton House," hence the sport's current
name.

• Official rules were developed after the game was introduced to the people in
England.

• The Badminton World Federation (BWF) was formed in 1934 and introduced
the Badminton Super Series events in 2007 to further promote the sport.
