explain about the two
major river systems of
the Himalayan
ranges. They are-

Indus

Indus River
System
• River Indus originates from Bokhar Chu.
• The river Indus rises in Tibet, near lake
Mansarowar.
• Flowing west enters India in the Ladakh district
of Jammu and Kashmir.
• Indus is one of the few rivers in the world to
exhibit a tidal bore.
• The Satlej, the Beas, the Ravi joins the Indus
river
• River Indus flows southwards eventually
reaching the Arabian sea
Ganga River System
• River Ganga originates from Gangotri glaciers
• The headwaters of the Ganga, called the Bhagirathi is
fed by the Gangotri glacier
• The Ganga is the most important river of India both
from the point of view of its basin and cultural
significance.
• Ganga is the largest river in India, the length of ganga is
about 2500km, it feds around 11% of the worlds
population as it passes.
• The important tributaries of Ganga are the Ramganga,
the Gomati, the Ghaghara, the Gandak, the Kosi and the
Mahanada.
• River ganga drains in Bay of Bengal, this place is
known as Gangasagar.
