• Precolonial architecture adapted its design from the type of climate we
have.

• Bahay Kubo (Nipa Hut): is a
stilt house which was adapted
during the Precolonial period
because of the tropical
climate of the country. It is an
iconic structure that reflects
the local culture and rural
lives of Filipinos.

example of a large-
scale Precolonial
construction.

• The Precolonial walled city of
Manila was an undocumented
structure, for Spanish
colonizers dismantled it only to
rebuild it as the inner city of

living mambabatok (tattoo
artist) from Buscalan,
Kalinga, keeps this tradition
alive by catering to tourists
who want to be tattooed with
her creations.

in tattoos with only their
hands and feet left bare.

• Indonesia’s traditional art was influenced by Indian and European
influences.

• Traditional structures in Indonesia are
built on stilts which are homes from
the Batak and Toraja indigenous
groups. These structures have
oversized saddle roofs. Buffalo horns
stacked one above the other in front of
the Toraja house are used to display a
particular social status—the more
horns stacked, the higher the social
status.

• Wayang refers to a variety of Indonesian theatrical forms which uses
puppets. Puppets could be made of:

tradition of textile making. An art

can be done to make vibrant colors and
incredible designs.

woven fabric by tie-dyeing
the warp yarns (warpikat)
