PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Present Continuous or Progressive is used to express:
- Actions in progress at the moment of speaking
- Temporary situation around the present
Action in progress at the moment

past present future

PRESENT CONTINUOUS
STRUCTURE
POSITIVE:
SUBJECT + TO BE + MAIN VERB-ING FORM + REST + .

For example:
I’m working for an important company.
She’s studying to be a successful businesswoman.
They are celebrating their graduation.
We’re speaking English to the teacher in lessons .
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
STRUCTURE
NEGATIVE:
SUBJECT + TO BE + not + MAIN VERB-ING FORM + REST + .

For example:
I’m not working for Mexican government.
She isn’t practising football at the moment.
They aren’t celebrating their graduation on a holiday.
We are not speaking English in basic courses.

INTERROGATIVE (close questions):
TO BE + SUBJECT + MAIN VERB-ING FORM + REST + ?

*Possible anwers: Yes, SUBJECT + TO BE. / No, SUBJECT + TO BE + NOT.

For example:
Are you working for an important company? – Yes, I am.
Is she studying Architecture? – No, she isn’t.
Are they celebrating their graduation in a function room? – Yes, they are
Are we speaking English at the moment? – No, we aren’t.

For example:

How to write verbs in –ING form
1 Most verbs, we only add “ing”

2 Verbs ending in [consonant]+e, we change ‘e’ for “ing”

syllable, we double the final [consonant] and add “ing”
