BAHASA INDONESIA

FOR FOREIGN SPEAKERS (BIPA)

INTRODUCTION

1. Interest to learn Bahasa Indonesia has been


increased lately due to tourism factor.

2. Rohayani mentioned that in 2011 more than 92


institutions offer BIPA in their programs.

3. There are four main skills which are focused in


BIPA namely listening, speaking, reading, and
writing.
BIPA Lesson Plan
There are three main purposes of why someone wants
to learn Bahasa Indonesia.

1. Tourism purposes

2. Vocational purposes

3. Educational purposes (for searching information


from newspaper and for communication, for reading
research paper, for communicating to local people)
BIPA Lesson Plan
After completing BIPA, the students will be able to:

1. understand and use expressions in the context of self-introduction


and fulfillment of daily and routine concrete needs in simple
ways to communicate with highly cooperative speech partners.

2. express feelings in simple terms, describe the surrounding


environment, and communicate daily and routine needs.

3. express experiences, hopes, goals, and plans briefly and


coherently with reasons in the context of life and daily work
tasks.
After completing BIPA, the students will be able to:

4. report the results of observations of events and express ideas in the topic of
their field, both concrete and abstract, quite smoothly without obstacles that
interfere with the understanding of the interlocutor.

5. understand long and complex texts and be able to express ideas


from various points of view on various topics spontaneously and
fluently almost without problems, except professional and
academic.
6. understand long, complex, and implied texts and be able to express ideas in
clear, structured, systematic, and detailed language spontaneously and
fluently according to speech situations for social and professional purposes,
except in complex academic fields (scientific papers).

7. understand information in almost all fields easily and express ideas


spontaneously, fluently, precisely by distinguishing nuances of meaning, and
COMPONENT OF SKILLS IN BIPA

The formal BIPA that is carried out at every educational


institution actually depends on the needs of the learner so
that it is important to analyze the learner's needs.
However, in principle, learning Indonesian is directed at
mastering four language skills, namely;

1) listening, students are expected to have the ability to


understand the sounds of language, commands,
instructions, announcements, news, and so on;

2) speaking, students are expected to have the ability to express
ideas, opinions, and information orally, for example how to get
acquainted, greet others, tell stories about their experiences. and
others;

3) reading, it is expected that students have the ability to


understand reading texts through reading aloud, reading fluently,
reading silently, reading intensively, and so on;

4) writing, students are expected to have writing, such as


describing objects, composing, writing letters, and so on.
BIPA LESSON PLAN
1. BIPA planning includes curriculum, syllabus, and lesson
plans.

2. Teaching materials are all forms of material used to assist


educators in implementing the teaching and learning
activities in the classroom. This material can be written or
unwritten.

3. Learning strategy in the form of techniques and methods.

4. Learning characteristics.
TEACHING MATERIALS
An effective teaching material by breed and candling is a material that is
useful for learners. The characteristics of good material contain the following.

1. Targeting goals (instructional, curriculum, and syllabus).

2. There is a task for the learners.

3. Paying attention to the learner interest.

4. Paying attention to the development of communication activities.

5. Paying attention to students’ style and concept of learning about


language.

6. Paying attention to the way of presentation.

7. Containing evaluations of the procedures and content of the lesson
