1. Rock Climbing
is an activity in which participants climb up, down or across natural
rock formations or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the summit of a
formation or the endpoint of a pre-defined route without falling.
2. Sport climbing
is a form of rock climbing that may rely on permanent anchors fixed to the rock for
protection, in which a rope that is attached to the climber is clipped into the anchors to
arrest a fall, or that involves climbing short distances with a crash pad underneath as
protection.
3. Bouldering
is a form of rock climbing that is performed on small rock formations or artificial rock
walls without the use of ropes or harnesses.
4. Ice climbing
is the activity of ascending inclined ice formations. Usually, ice
climbing refers to roped and protected climbing of features such as icefalls,
frozen waterfalls, and cliffs and rock slabs covered with ice refrozen from flows
of water.
5. Competition climbing
is usually held indoors on purpose built climbing walls. There are three main
types of climbing competition: lead, speed, and bouldering. In lead climbing, the
competitors start at the bottom of a route and must climb it within a certain time frame
in a single attempt, making sure to clip the rope into pre-placed quick draws along the
route.
6. Hill walking
is the recreational outdoor activity of walking on hills and mountains, often with
the intention of visiting their summits. This can include activities which might be referred
to as hiking, backpacking or mountaineering elsewhere, covering terrain which can
include mountains, high moorland, remote passes and coastal walks.
7. Scrambling
is "a walk up steep terrain involving the use of one's hands". It is
an ambiguous term that lies somewhere between hiking,
hillwalking, mountaineering, and rock climbing. Canyoning often
involves scrambling.
8.Mountaineering
Mountaineering is the set of activities that involves
ascending mountains. Mountaineering-related activities
include traditional outdoor climbing, skiing, and
traversing via ferrates.
