Key areas of performance that a great hospital pharmacy department should focus on
1- Minimize patient waiting time. 2- Privacy in medication use counseling. 3- Safe dispensing & drug use monitoring (P.S.) 4- Drug utilization review: To look for medication problems such as:as:- Possible medication errors. - Appropriate drugs because of the age or gender. - Possible harmful interactions between drugs. - Drug dosage errors.

5- Work force optimization & staff continuous education, - We have to insure that effort is made to assure that all staff maintain Knowledge & skills on a current basis. - All staff has to complete the programs designed for orientation to their specific job /role. - Orientation provides new employees with basic background information. It can range from brief informal to lengthy formal courses. Examples of Pharmacist programs; A -Medication distribution system. b- Drug information. c- Medication order review. d- Pharmacy order entry system. e- Narcotic control.

If i have been appointed as the pharmacy manager to commission a new 210-bed hospital. 2101-The proposed organization chart for the pharmacy department will be as following:following:-

Chief operating officer: The head of the department. Manager, ph. Department:-Acting chief pharmacist. Deputy Head of Pharmacy;- Acting deputy chief pharmacist.

Oncology service;-Responsible of
preparations of all cytotoxics in sterile & safe environment.

Out patient pharmacy:-Provides


medications for patients from the clinics, emergency rooms, & inpatient being discharged.

Inpatient pharmacy:-Dispense, distribute, & monitors medications for inpatients.


- IV Admixtures & TPN: Total parenteral nutrition. Responsible from the preparation of the nutrition solutions under aseptic conditions by trained personnel. - Narcotics: Operating under strict policies formulated by MOH narcotics division, responsible for providing narcotics for out & inpatients. - VIP service: Dispense, distribute & monitors medications for hospitalized VIPs. - CUDDS: (central unit dose drug distribution service) Exp; in the medical or surgical ward the drugs can be distributed in a pins for 24 h use.

Quality improvement service (QI):


Implemented to assure that the best quality of the services are maintained at all times, and to upgrade pharmacy personnel skills on a regular base.

3-2 How would you determine the ethical & surgical requirements for the hospital? By :

a ) number of procedures expected. b) Numbers of beds. c) Type of specialties & sub specialties.

3-3 What formula would you utilize to determine the correct amount of stock to be purchased initially?
Make Forecast for one year based on hospital capacity ( # of beds ) Medical specialties Compare with consumption of similar level of care institution Then order for six month initially & start building my own data based on real consumption .
