ABSTRACT

The primary requirements for a person are food, clothing and shelter. Shelter is as important as food and
clothing for the sustenance of life. A stable shelter protects us in many aspects ranging from harsh storms to
seismic activity . However a construction project must follow the rules and regulations of the government . That
includes government regulations on the use of property and obligations that are created in the process of
construction.
Based on the requirements of modernization this project has been choose to “ PLOTTING
& ANALYSING OF DUPLEX BUILDING”
Which provides shelter for families on all floors. Later on it is analyzed in STAADPRO the design of Duplex
building was studied in detail to be economical and also calculating to attain stability . To ensure safety , the
structure is analyzed both manually and in STAADPRO as per IS 456:2000
The proposed project is a duplex building consisting at ground level . It consists of master bedroom , bedroom ,
guest room , living room , drawing room , puja room , dining , kitchen , two balconies , a non attached toilet.

After plotting the design , analysis is made with the help of STAADPRO .
INTRODUCTION TO CIVIL
ENGINEERING

 A professional engineering discipline that deals with the analysis, design, construction and maintenance
of infrastructural facilities such as buildings, bridges, dams, roads, etc.
 Civil engineering is the application of physical and scientific principles for solving the problems of
society, and its history is intricately is understanding of physical and mathematics throughout history.
Mathematics because civil engineering is a wide-ranging profession, including several specialized sub-
disciplines, its history is linked to knowledge of structures, materials.
 Civil engineering has a significant role in the life of every human being, though one may not truly sense
its importance in our daily routine.
INTRODUCTION TO CIVIL
ENGINEERING

The function of civil engineering commences with the start of the day when we take a shower,
since the water is delivered through a water supply system including a well designed network
of piles, water treatment plant and other numerous associated services.
The network of roads on which we drive while proceeding to school or work, the huge
structural brides we come across and the tall building where we work, all have been designed
and constructed by civil engineers. Even the benefits of electricity use are available to us
though the contribution of civil engineering who constructed the towers for the transmission
lines.
Civil engineering utilizes technical information obtained from numerous 4 other sciences, and
with the advancement in all types of technologies, the civil engineering has also benefited
tremendously. The future of civil engineering is expected to be revolutionized by the new
technologies including design software, GPS, GIS systems and other latest technical expertise
in varied fields.
CONSTRUCTION WORK

SITE WORK OFFICE WORK

OUR PROJECT IS CLASSIFIED INTO 2 CATEGORIES:

1. SITE WORK
2. OFFICE WORK (or) DESIGN WORK

SITE WORK: A site engineer offers advice in the planning and supervision of the technical aspects of
construction projects. A site engineer’s role is to undertake the construction projects. They have a number
of solving technical issues providing advice, management and report. In site , we observed and learned
measuring the site with the help of tape , taking the measurements of road width , calculation of setbacks by
following the rules and orders of government, measuring column to column dimensions, each column
dimensions ( inner to inner),calculating the areas of site, stair case , lift, and measuring each and every
particular dimension of rooms. The most mandatory work is to check the facing of the building.
• Civil engineering is considered the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering, and
it is defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering.
• Civil engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and
in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.

OFFICE WORK: In office work ,various presentation drawings like, Plan, elevation , cross section, were
designed by using various software applications. Checking the GO’S released by the government are to be
taken into a consideration. By taking of site measurements site and location plan is to be designed. GO’s
are the rules and regulations to prepare a plan. After understanding the blue print plans, municipal plans
and working plans are prepared based upon the G.O, NBC & Vaastu. Based on project, these various types
of plans are designed by using Auto CAD software where 2D Drawings are categorized. To calculate
stability and analyzation of the residential building is studied in STAAD PRO application and also done in
manual designs. All the municipal approvals are done in office work itself.
 There are various types of Rules and Regulations which are to be followed as per the
Government Orders and National Building codes.

 Project is classified into 2 main steps:

They are,
1. Plotting of the building
2. Analysis of the structure
PLOTTING OR PLANNING

 Based upon plotting, the building plans are categorised into various types.
1. Location Plan
2. Setback Plan
3. Site Plan
4. Dimensional Plan
5. Cross – Section
6. Elevation
a) External elevation
b) Internal elevation
7. Landscape Plan
SETBACK PLAN
The empty space around the
building is called Setback area. The
setback area is decided by
Municipal Authority. In India, we
leave 4 ft from all the sides of the
building. The reason behind leaving
setback area is to make ease for
moving vehicles, ventilation and
during emergency purposes.
However set back area increases
for High rise building and may go up
to several meters.
SITE PLAN
Site plan is comprehensive
detailed drawing of the building
or an apartment representing
whole plan of a building. It
shows property boundaries and
means of access to the site, and SITE PLAN
nearby structures if they are
relevant to the design.
DIMENSIONED PLAN
A floor plan is carefully
dimensioned to ensure
that items such as walls,
columns, doors, windows,
openings, stairs, and
other particulars are
correctly located for
construction. Sometimes
after a plan is drawn
accurately to a scale.
ELEVATION
THESE ARE CATEGORISED
INTO TWO TYPES
1.EXTERNAL ELEVATION
2. INTERNAL ELEVATION
CROSS SECTION
Geometrically, a cross section is a
horizontal orthographic
projection of a building on to a
vertical plane cutting through the
building. Cross section is vertical
cut section of any building which
shows the details of dimension,
thickness of any component of a
building. It also represents the sill
height, lintel height, floor height
and other minute details of a
structure.
LANDSCAPE PLAN
A perfect home or a building has a lush
green garden adjacent to it, which enhances
the beauty or aesthetics appearance of the
building.

NATINOAL BUILDING CODE(NBC)

The National Building Code (NBC) is a document that

provides guidelines for construction of structures –
residential, mercantile, institutional, educational,
commercial, assembly, storage spaces or even hazardous
buildings. It is important to follow these guidelines that are
meant to protect the overall health of the construction and
ensure the health and safety of the public and the residents.
1.If we are planning to construct a building or a structure we need to check the Government order 119.

2.The above table shows the setbacks for a building which we need to follow for obtaining an approval
or for construction. With the given site area, road width and number of floors, setbacks for a building can
be 12 obtained.

3. Prepare a site plan by the client requirements and also by following he GO.

4.In site plan, route map, setbacks are to be checked thoroughly.

For calculating the setbacks of an particular area we must follow the government orders.
For an example:

A site of 235sq.m, which has chosen for the height of 10m considering of stilt+3floors.

Firstly, we need to check the road width so that we can calculate the setbacks of the particular site. Now
we need to go for the setbacks list which is given by the government. By following the rules of the
government, this particular site setbacks would be front open area is 2m and other open areas are of
1.5m. for the height of 10m. The parking Provision height doesn’t include in the height of the building.
For all the given sites we must calculate by the orders of government.
