Electric Car

Electric car is an automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors, using
energy that store in a rechargeable batteries. An electric vehicle has an on-board
battery that gets charged through an electricity supply and then stores and uses that
energy to power the electric motor and set the wheels in motion. It means the cars
doesnt need a clutch and gearbox or an exhaust pipe and it makes them much
quieter and, smoother to drive.

In fact, on a full charge, a standard electric car can run more than 400km before
need to be recharge.

They are still far better for the planet than conventional cars. They generate fewer
emissions. 95% of the energy generated by an electric car is put into motion.
Whereas the internal combustion engine is only 30% efficient the rest of the energy
being lost as heat noise.
Electric Car Engine Work

Electric cars function by plugging into a charge point and taking electricity from
the grid. They store the electricity in rechargeable batteries that power an electric
motor, which turns the wheels. Electric cars accelerate faster than vehicles with
traditional fuel engines, so they feel lighter to drive.

You can charge an electric vehicle by plugging it into a public charging station or
into a home charger..
Electric Car Type

Plug-in electric :

This means the car runs purely on electricity and gets all its power when it's
plugged in to charge. This type doesn't need petrol or diesel to run so doesn't
produce any emissions like traditional cars.

Plug-in hybrid :

These cars mainly run on electricity but also have a traditional fuel engine, so you
can use petrol or diesel too if they run out of charge.

Hybrid-electric :

These run mainly on fuel like petrol or diesel but also have an electric battery too.
Parts Of Electric Car
Electric Engine/Motor :
Provides power to rotate the wheels. It can be DC/AC type, however, AC motors are more common.

Inverter :
Converts the electric current in the form of Direct Current (DC) into Alternating Current (AC)

Drivetrain :
Electric car have a single-speed transmission which sends power from the motor to the wheels.

Batteries :
Required to run an Electric car. The higher kW of the battery, higher the range.

Charger :
Plug into an outlet or Electric car charging point to charge your battery.

Electric Car Charging

How to charge an Electric car ?

You can charge an electric vehicle either by plugging it into a socket or by plugging into a charging unit.
There are three types of chargers:

Three-pin plug
a standard three-pin plug that you can connect to any 13 amp socket.

Socketed
a charge point where you can connect either a Type 1 or Type 2 cable.

Tethered
a charge point with a cable attached with either a Type 1 or Type 2 connector
Charging Speed

There are also three Electric Car charging speeds

Slow :
Often used to charge overnight or at the workplace. Charging time: 8-10 hours.

Fast :
Tend to be installed in car parks, supermarkets, and houses with off-street parking.
charging time: 3-4 hours.

Rapid :
Only compatible with Electric cars that has rapid charging capability. Charging time: 30-60
minutes.

The weather affects how much energy your electric car consumes. You have a larger range in summer
and smaller range in winter.

Conclusion

Electric car is a good choice. There are lower operating costs as a full charge
costs and It is very cost effective and can also reduce the emissions that
contribute to climate change and smog, improving public health and reduc-
ing ecological damage.
