LIGHT- LESSON 3

FRIDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2021

WATCH THE VIDEO
HOW DO WE SEE?-- TASK

 Draw the diagrams and

explain how we see objects
in detail
WHAT IS REFLECTION?

The process through which light rays falling

on the surface of an object are sent back is
called the reflection of light.
Thus, when light falls on the surface of an
object it sends back the light.
REFLECTION OF LIGHT
 Reflection: Bouncing back of a light ray
after hitting a surface.
Incident ray: The light ray which strikes
the surface.
Reflected ray: The light ray which returns
from the surface after reflection.
Normal: An imaginary line perpendicular
to the surface passing from the point of
contact.
Angle of incidencei: Angle between the
incident ray and the normal
Angle of reflection r: Angle between the
reflected ray and the normal.
DIAGRAM SHOWING THE FIRST LAW OF REFLECTION, WRITE IT
AND THEN DRAW THE DIAGRAM
DRAWING SHOWING THE SECOND LAW OF REFLECTION. WRITE
IT AND THEN DRAW THE DIAGRAMS.
 Based on the illustration, if the incident ray is reflected, what will
the angle of reflection be?
DRAW THE DIAGRAM AND FIND THE ANGLE OF REFLECTION
FIND THE ANGLE OF REFLECTION?
WHAT ARE THE MISSING COMPONENTS, A AND B IN THE
ILLUSTRATION THAT SHOWS THE LAW OF REFLECTION?
QUESTION

 A mirror rests on a flat

surface, seen from above.
 A light ray reflects from the
face of the mirror.
 Which color arrow correctly
shows the direction of the
reflected ray?
QUESTION

 A mirror rests on a flat

surface, seen from
above.
 A light ray reflects
from the face of the
mirror.
 How does the angle of
incidence compare to
the angle of reflection?
QUESTION

 A mirror rests on a flat surface,

seen from above.
 A light ray reflects from the face
of the mirror.
 Which color angle is the angle of
reflection of the light ray?
TASK

Draw a diagram that shows a mirror

with a normal line and a ray of light
hitting the mirror at an angle of
incidence of 60 degrees.
QUESTION

: A light ray strikes a reflective plane surface at an angle of 56° with

the surface.
a) Find the angle of incidence.
b) Find the angle of reflection.
c) Find the angle made by the reflected ray and the surface.
d) Find the angle made by the incident and reflected rays.
PRACTICAL TASK- TRY IT OUT

Verification of laws of reflection

Laws of verification can be experimentally verified by drawing
the trace of a ray of light before and after reflection.
This can be done by passing light through a small hole in a dark
room or using two thin objects (like needles/pins) to trace a
straight line and observe its reflection.
