UEP STUDENTS’ ADOPTION AND
NON-ADOPTION OF ICT IN
LEARNING INSTRUCTION
(Study 2)
Objectives of Study 2
Determine the UEP Students’ Adoption and Non-Adoption
of ICT in Learning, specifically;
1. Demographic Profile of the Students
2. ICT capability of the students in terms of:
a) Computer Operation
b) Computer Application
c) Basic Networking
d) Technological Means
 3. Use and non-use of the student of ICT in learning
Methodology
• This study utilized the descriptive survey design which enabled to assess the use of ICT
in daily activities and the use of ICT in learning of the students in the university.

• The Diffusion Innovation theory was also utilized, which integrated the factors which
covered the technology innovation and the factors that affect the student learning using the
ICT.

• Thematic analysis will be used as a complementary procedure to provide additional

insights of the findings derived from the quantitative methodology about the use and non-
use of ICT of the students in UEP.
Framework
Rogers (1983), identified five general attributes (Compatibility, Complexity,
Relative Advantage, Observability, and Trialability) for innovation that a
variety of diffusion studies had shown to consistently influence adoption. In
this study, the three of the five attributes mentioned by Rogers were used
and integrated other attributes that identifies the capability of the students to
absorb knowledge and learning.

ICT Infrastructure in UEP
Internet connectivity
• Internet connectivity has been a problem since typhoon
Yolanda, not only in UEP but also in the whole province of
Northern Samar
• Faculty, staff and students of the university, mostly, rely on pre-
paid internet connection through their cellular phones
• The university conducted a bidding three times, thru the UEP
BAC with a monthly budget of 175,000.00 for a symmetrical
bandwidth of 100mbps. The major TELCOs like Globe, Smart
and PLDT did no participate due to congestion in their
networks. One bidder participated, but failed to comply the
technical requirements of the project.
• Currently, the Internet Connectivity Service is again advertised
in the Philgeps, and hopefully this time, some takers will
participate in the bidding process.
