TYPES OF THEMES IN INTERIOR DESIGN

What is the Theme in Interior Design? In general, the theme is a subpart of

the concept. A theme is a unifying or dominant thought or pattern that
passes around a given concept; more information on a thought. For any item
like furniture, a theme is too detail & even for any space like even a bed.

THEMES IN INTERIOR DESIGN

There is nothing like taking the interior design of your home or office into
your hands and customising it according to your taste and requirements. Even
if you have an interior decorator on hand, having the knowledge and your
ideas on choosing themes for your special space will give you more
confidence, clarity and insight regarding what should be. The theme of your
space is of paramount importance in setting the foundation for the rest of the
interiors, which is why this is so important.
TYPES OF THEMES IN INTERIOR DESIGN

What’s a theme? When you think of a theme, you probably think of a party

theme. A super-coordinated visual look for a party centered around one topic
or idea. A theme is great for a party. Even if it’s totally cheesy, it’s fun…for a
day.
The mistake: If you think of your decorating style as a theme, of course, you
should be scared. Locking in all your decorating choices to match one specific
theme can quickly turn cheesy.
So if a theme is a visual look centered around one specific topic or idea,
then what is a decorating style?
TYPES OF THEMES IN INTERIOR DESIGN

1. Art Deco Delight

If you channel bold, flashy elements of The Great Gatsby of the 1920s
and think interior design rather than fashion then you will understand
Art Deco.
Features of this interior design style include geometric shapes and
graphic patterns, polished chrome or brass, glossy timber furnishings,
glass and mirrors and layered sultry lighting. It incorporates being bold
and artistic expression with exotic touches. Originating from Paris in
1925, Art Deco is all at once histrionic and elegant. Take a peak
at HouseBeautiful for more Art Deco interior design tips.

2. Bohemian
If you fancy something more carefree, Boho interior design is
your friend. Purposefully messy, this style— with its global
inspirations, travel mementos and op shop finds— provides a
warm ambience.
It combines different textures and materials from natural to
metallic and embraces warm red and purples tones and plenty
of layering when it comes to pillows, rugs and blankets.
Beaded embellishments, tassels and crochet curtains are all
whimsical additions to the Boho interior decor style.

3. Classical Reflections
Classicism emerged in Europe in the 17th-19th centuries with
the impressionist art, music, literature and architecture of the
time inspiring this particular style.
Today, lovers of tradition who enjoy plush, formal settings tend
to be drawn to the symmetry, sophistication, simplicity and
reliability of classic design. Think gilded frames, heavy drapery
and ornate woodwork.

4. Contemporary Cheer
Contemporary and modern interior design themes often get
confused. The key is to remember that “modern” refers to a
particular era (most often the early and mid 20th century)
whereas contemporary refers to designs of today; the here and
now.
This is the interior design style for those who love to follow
fashion trends and change with the times. Right now in the
world of contemporary art and design we are loving the
simplicity of whites, greys and blondes with the excitement of
occasional color.
TYPES OF THEMES IN INTERIOR DESIGN

5. Minimalist
One of the most thoroughly modern interior design styles to
consider, people often tend to confuse minimalism with a stark
coldness and uncomfortable severity – which is hardly the case at
all. In fact, there’s even a warmer take on minimal interior design
(warm minimalism) that’s full of no-fuss, clean elegance.
Think simplicity, refinement, and a deft hand at sumptuous
comfort and functionality. The key here is to keep rooms spare
and well-edited with printless fabrications and décor extras that
must serve a dual purpose.
When thinking minimal interior design styles trends, think of a
modern art gallery or museum as a reference with their pulled
together approach to filling a space with the barest of essentials
that still feature a lively sense of drama either organic or abstract.

6. Contemporary
Though people often tend to confuse modern interior design
styles with contemporary interior design, there is a difference
between the two that makes them unique in and of
themselves.
Contemporary style is completely of the moment while modern
interior design styles can almost mean anything forward-
thinking from the 50’s to the early aughts. Contemporary
interior design styles trends also have more freedom as
modern is usually fixed around squared, graphic lines and a
particular take on modernity.

7. Traditional
When it comes to interior design styles, almost everything is
rooted in traditional interior design ideas, and for good reason.
That said, you can make traditional style interior design all your
own by incorporating pieces that speak to your personality and
lifestyle while making a statement.
Take the room above, sure it features a depth and layering, a
traditional beige overstuffed sofa, a Persian rug, and requisite
Louis VI chair, however, what sets it apart from any other
traditional room is the updated contemporary light fixture and
the conversation starting art piece.

8. Rustic
Taking inspiration from the outdoors and a combination of
farmhouse and industrial interior design styles, rustic décor
places an emphasis on natural and weathered finishes, raw
wood, stone, and leather, with unexpected touches and an
overall sophisticated bent.
We love how the room featured above fuses a varied mix of
statement-making furnishings like the custom plush sherpa
sofas, the industrial inspired wire pendants, and unique leather
chairs. That said, we’re all for modern interior design styles that
combine various elements to create a beautifully realized, one-
of-a-kind room.
