Women and Armed Conflict
Women experienced armed conflict much the same
way men do. They are killed, injured disabled and
tortured. Throughout the history, women have often
been targeted in war time for violence. Women from
armed conflict have intense feeling of fear. A lack of
high-level leadership committed to integrating
women’s right, including security council negotiations.
HOW ARE WOMEN AFFECTED BY ARMED
CONFLICT?
Women usually don't start wars, but they do
suffer heavily from the consequences. It renders
women acutely vulnerable to poverty, the loss of
jobs and the destruction of assets such as homes.
EXAMPLE OF VIOLENCE AGAINST

• Forced marriage
• Forced impregnation
• Torture
WHY ARE WOMEN'S RIGHTS IMPORTANT IN
SITUATIONS OF ARMED CONFLICT?
It is important that women are empowered so
that they can influence their situation and that
women and girls are protected against abuse.
Woman and Politics
Only 23% of the world’s politicians are women.
The lack of female political leaders on the world
stage is all too visible. Around the world, women
are closing the gender gap such as health, and
education but significant gender inequality persists
in politics. Democracy is not democratic without
the equality while women in politics experience
violence and intimidation.
Way to Increase Women Participation in
Government
1. Setting numerical target for women in
leadership position.
2. Expanding and diversifying the full of
qualified and capable women able to run for
election.
3. Increasing awareness of the benefits that
women in politics bring.
4. Encouraging support for them among
governing institutions.
