Environmental impact

Presented by: Bryan Steven Olivero Gomez

What is environmental impact?

• The term environmental impact was established in 1993 as the modification

or alteration caused to the environment by anthropic action.
• These impacts are assessed in order to determine whether the effect modifies
the quality of the environment, thus defining the magnitude of the impact..
Causes of the increase in environmental
impacts?
• The industrial revolution

• The green revolution

• The absence of environmental education

• Excessive consumerism
Origin of the problem
• Development was based on an economy ecosystems and the
environment.

• Industrial and agricultural development was

invasive.

• At present, the lack of compliance

with environmental regulations
• The rate of deforestation in Colombia
has increased since 1984 according to
SINAP (National System of Protected
Areas).
47% Biodiversity

• Industrial development and agricultural * The production of greenhouse gases

* Contamination of water
production based on unsustainable * Soil erosion
practices increased: * Alteration of biogeochemical cycles
• Caused a continuous increase in the effects of
global warming.

• Modified natural cycles (biogeochemical

cycles), which regulate life.

• Altered the temperature, precipitation, air

currents; causing:
• Natural disasters
• Economic losses
• Biological losses
• Loss of human lives
What is the government doing?
• In Colombia, the government is implementing
regulations that contribute to the conservation
of the environment.

• Sadly, environmental regulations are being

ignored by large industries, threatening the
quality of life of everyone.
As a biologist, I would recommend:

• Strict compliance with environmental regulations that

seek to mitigate, reduce and correct negative
environmental impacts.
• Restore polluted and desert areas.
• Promote sustainable and sustainable agricultural
production.
• It would instil the importance of environmental
education and moderate consumerism.
