WATER RESOURCES

OBJECTIVES
You shall be able to:

•Recognize how water is distributed on Earth.

•Identify the various water resources on Earth.
•Suggest ways of conserving and protecting water.
What is
WAT E R ?
WATER
is….
• an oxygen hydride consisting of an oxygen atom that is covalently
bonded to two hydrogen atoms.

• a clear, colorless, odorless, tasteless liquid that

freezes into ice below 0 degrees centigrade and
boils above 100 degrees centigrade.

• a clear, nontoxic liquid composed of hydrogen

and oxygen, essential for life and the most
widely used solvent.
About 70% of Earth surface is covered
with water.
DISTRIBUTION OF WATER
WATER RESOURCES
WATER RESOURCES
• are natural resources of water that are potentially
useful.

• Uses of water include agricultural, industrial,

household, recreational and environmental
activities.
WATER RESOURCES
Water for humans use may come from the following
sources:

1. Rivers
2. Reservoirs or Lakes
3. Groundwater
RIVERS
are considered useful because flowing rivers are used for
replenishment. Thus, the flow of river fluctuates over time.
RESERVOIRS AND LAKES
these water resources usually are surface runoffs and maybe ground water
seepage, or from rivers or rainfall that have accumulated in low area.
GROUND WATER
is the water found underground in the cracks
and spaces in soil, sand and rock. It is stored in
and moves slowly through geologic formations of
soil, sand and rocks called aquifers.
DESALINATION
• is the process of removing dissolved salts from water to
produce freshwater.

CLOSING ACTIVITY
• Learners will create an advocacy poster that upholds conserving resources (minerals, energy, or
water resources) Learners shall submit it on Eliza.
• SUSTAINABLE FARM POSTER: Learners will create an advocacy poster that upholds
conserving land resources. Learners shall submit their outputs on Eliza.
