Surat Cinta untuk Starla (A Love Letter For Starla) is a 2017

Indonesian romantic drama film produced by Screenplay
Films and Legacy Pictures. The film is directed by Rudi
Aryanto and written by Sukhdev Singh and Tisa TS. The
main leads are Jefri Nichol and Caitlin Halderman. The film
is based on a song with the same title. Also, there is a
youtube series with the same title before the film was
released. This movie was released at theaters on 28
December 2017. The movie takes the theme of the life of
modern teenagers and their love story.

The story tells about Hema Chandra (Jefri Nichol), a

boy who is obsessed with his love for nature, who has
an unique hobby. He loves to write love letter to
nature. With the help of his old typewriter, an
inheritance from his grandfather who was a journalist,
Hema makes mural paintings that express how he
loves this nature. Nature is the only love he has in his
life.

Then he meets Starla (Caitlin Halderman) who is an

independent and pretty girl who makes Hema falls in
love in just six hours. It is the first time Hema realizes
that there is something more beautiful than love
letters for nature, and that something is love letters
for Starla.

But when Hema and Starla become really close,

Starla’s behavior towards Hema changes. Starla is
angry and she avoids Hema even she tells Hema to
forget about their six-hours-story which become viral
on social media because it was aired on a radio by
Athena (Hema’s bestfriend).

Until one day, Hema discovers that the cause of

Starla’s different behavior towards him is linking to a
secret about the past of his family.

Surat Cinta untuk Starla is not only a story about teenagers’

love life. There’s a lot of things that we can learn from Hema.
For example, we always think that mural paintings are bad
and made by brats. This movie also contains some criticisms
to law enforcement officers. It is shown when Hema said that
police should catch people who do littering or desecrate
nature, not the people who want to rekindle the art through
mural.

But, the truth is, we can’t really jump into that conclusion. In
this movie, Hema tells us that mural paintings are not bad.
Instead, murals cover the deficiency of old buildings and
make them become more aesthetic and beautiful.

This movie also contains some criticisms to law enforcement

officers. It is shown when Hema said that police should catch
people who do littering or desecrate nature, not the people
who want to rekindle the art through mural.

Compared to his previous movie, Dear

Nathan Jefri Nichol can get the chemistry
better with his partner in this movie. Yet,
the film is too predictable. By watching
half of the movie we already can tell how
the ending of this movie will be.

Surat Cinta untuk Starla is a good recommendation

for teenagers. This movie, which is based on a
song by Virgoun with the same title, is not only a
movie about love story. There is a lot of good
things the main leads try to convey to the
audiences. With a touch of comedy that is not too
exaggerated, it goes well with the romantic side of
the movie.
