HYDROLOGICAL CYCLE
 It Describes the storage and movement
of water between the :
 Biosphere
 Atmosphere
 Lithosphere
 Hydrosphere
 It is closed system. The total amount of
water in the cycle does not change
but the water is always movement.
The global hydrological cycle
divided into three subsystem :-
 A) Atomospheric water
system
 B) Surface water system
 C) Subsurface water system
MAJOR PROCESS OF HYDROLOGICAL CYCLE

 Evaporation
 Transpiration
 Condensation
 Precipitation
 Interception
 Infiltration
 Runoff
 Ground water
flow
Evaporatio
n
Conversion of water into vapour form
due to effect of temperature is called
evaporation.
 Hydrological Cycle is activated by solar
energy.
Transpiratio
nTranspiration is the process of water
movement through a plant and its
evaporation from aerial parts, such as
leaves, stems and flowers.
Condensatio
nCondensation is the process where water
vapor becomes liquid. It is the reverse
of evaporation, where liquid water
becomes a vapor. Condensation
happens one of two ways. Either the air
is cooled to its dew point or it becomes
so saturated with water vapor that it
cannot hold any more water.
Precipitatio
nIn meteorology, precipitation is any
product of the condensation of
atmospheric water vapor that falls under
gravitational pull from clouds.The main
forms of precipitation include drizzle,
rain, sleet, snow, ice pellets, graupel and
hail.
Interceptio
nInterception refers to precipitation that
does not reach the soil, but is instead
intercepted by the leaves, branches of
plants and the forest floor. It occurs in
the canopy, and in the forest floor or
litter layer.
Infiltratio
nInfiltration is the process by which water
on the ground surface enters the soil. It
is commonly used in both hydrology and
soil sciences.The infiltration capacity is
defined as the maximum rate of
infiltration. It is most often measured in
meters per day but can also be measured
in other units of distance over time if
necessary.
Runof
fRunoff is the water that is pulled by
gravity across land's surface, replenishing
groundwater and surface water as it
percolates into an aquifer or moves into
a river, stream or watershed. There are
three major types of runoff depending on
the source: surface flow, interflow, and
base flow.
Ground water
flow
In hydrogeology, groundwater flow is
defined as the "part of streamflow that
has infiltrated the ground, entered the
phreatic zone, and has been (or is at a
particular time) discharged into a stream
channel or springs; and seepage water."
It is governed by the groundwater flow
equation.
