DEVELOPMENT OF
HUMAN RESOURCES
• As acknowledgment of big gap in knowledge and training
as shown in previous schedule
• General administration of nursing adopted ambitious
program by establishment post-graduate clinical diploma
in oncology in cooperation with Palestine college of
nursing will be conducted in near future involving 20
nursing.
• In the meantime and parallelly there is strong need for
training program in abroad.

1. OVERVIEW & BACKGROUND ABOUT THE TOPIC

Long-term central venous access devices are essential in the management of

oncology patients, as they minimize the discomfort of frequent venipuncture
and cannulation.

Ambulatory devices such as elastomeric pumps can deliver prolonged

infusions of a variety of chemotherapy agents. Elastomeric pumps are
preferred by the patients, as they get them connected at the hospital or
cancer centers, then go back home where they can have visits from the
district nursing team. This minimizes disruption to careers and families.

INDICATORS

By two years after cancer diagnosis, 13% -30% of patients

had a documented long – term CVC insertion , with the
proportion varying by cancer site. A majority of long term
CVCs were implanted ports ( 68%-82% by cancer site).

3. LOCAL INDICATORS/AVAILABLE LOCAL
SERVICES

As shown by infographic distributed by national cancer

registry office
- Cancer colon incidence 2020 about 146 cases .
- Most of this will be tarted by continuous chemotherapy
regiment ( Folfox ) which necessitate presence pf CVC .
- Other cancer regiment which include multiple
consequent days require CVC .
- All this will explain the need of about 200 CVC annually

In the main time Insertion of Portacath catheter is

available , in both GEH and Shifa Hospital performed
by interventional radiologist and vascular surgeon

operating room was establish in TPFH for implanting
Portacath catheter , hopefully will start first activity
next Thursday ( Today )

4. GAPS IN LOCAL SERVICES

Few number of cancer patient in Gaza benefit from

advantage of CVC .
Frequently there are periods our patients suffer
unsustainability of CVC , Huber needle , manual
regulator
Off Corse unavailability of continuous IV infuser.
