Vision statement typically indicates aspirations and Mission statement

states the broad approach to achieve aspirations
Here Institute Vision and Mission statements have been asked to ensure
consistency with the department Vision and Mission statements.

•Vision is a futuristic statement that the institution / department would like to

achieve over a long period of time

•Vision of the institute and department should be futuristic

and the mission helps to achieve

•Mission statements are essentially the means to achieve the Vision

•PEOs are broad statements that describe the career and professional
achievements that the program is preparing the graduates to achieve
within the first few years after graduation.

•Defined PEOs must reflect the career and professional

accomplishments of the graduates and also measurable

The following process is conducted for defining the Vision and Mission of the Department, and
PEOs of the program:
 The process of defining Vision and Mission of the department and PEOs involves a brain
storming session first, in the department meetings of the faculty based on feedbacks taken
by the various stake holders’ thorough interactions / questionnaire / interviews / meetings.

The department arrives at specific conclusions after a SWOT analysis based on these
interactions and specifies the Programme Educational Objectives and revised several times accordingly

The members review these PEOs by considering Mission and Vision of the Department, Data
collected from the stakeholders, Details of the current status (Student admission quality,
Teaching & Learning Process, Faculty and their research activities, other facilities) of
Department, Data Collected on prospect/ potentialities of identified Industries relevant to the
academic programme and Action taken on reports and Minutes of the Meeting.

 Assessment methods are developed for each PEO to measure the attainment. Checks are
taken for the consistency of the PEOs with the mission statements of the Department.

 The PEOs are Published and Disseminated among the stakeholders to help the stakeholders
to know about the career accomplishments of the programme outcomes (PO’s). 13

 Consistency of PEOs
• Program Curriculum and other attributes must contribute to the
achievement of stated PEO’s.
• Administrative system must help in the assessment and attainment of
PEO’s.
• Assessment tools and processes must be appropriate and sufficient for
measuring the attainment of PEOs.
• The questions in the survey questionnaires must elicit required information
from the stakeholders to measure the attainment of PEOs.
• List the identified documents/evidences which are to be verified for
evaluating the attainment of PEOs.
