• Tourism is the main driver of human presence in the Arctic
• The Arctic region is considered as a source of material resources, but it contains
environmental and health resources
• The development of tourism in the Arctic is associated with the spread of new
technologies (clothes, equipment, communication technologies, transport), as well as an
increased interest in extreme sports
• Thanks to tourism, the development of the Arctic is considered not only from the
developmental paradigm (oil and gas), but also from an axiological one,
taking into account aesthetic and environmental aspects.
• Tourism in the Arctic should be seen as an alternative development strategy for the
region instead of an industrial concept
