    Organelles are structures within cells that enable cells to live, grow, and reproduce. The key organelles include the cell membrane, which acts as the outer layer and gate into the cell; the cytoplasm, which is a jelly-like fluid that holds the organelles; and the nucleus, which is the control center containing the cell's DNA. Other important organelles are mitochondria, which provide energy to the cell; vacuoles, which store water, food, and wastes; and in plant cells, chloroplasts, which contain chlorophyll and enable photosynthesis.
