Heterogeneous
-comes from the Greek words heteros (other) and genos
(kind).

Mixture
- The act, the process, or an instance of mixing.
Heterogeneous mixture
• are a type of mixture that is not uniform in
composition and does not blend smoothly.
• a substance that can be easily separated into
its parts, and those parts retain their original
properties. A heterogeneous mixture is not
blended together or the same consistency
throughout.
• the mixture is not mixed evenly.
Examples
1. Cereal in milk is a great example of a
heterogeneous mixture. It consists of a solid
cereal in liquid milk.
Examples
2. Oil and water form a heterogeneous mixture.
Examples
3. Concrete is a heterogeneous mixture of cement,
gravel, sand, and water.

mixture. You may get different numbers of chocolate
chips with each bite.

able to be seen with the
Properties of human eye in the mixture.

Heterogeneous 2. The different substances in the

mixture can be easily separated
Mixtures through various processes such
as filtration, evaporation or just
physically picking out the different
substances.
3. In a heterogeneous mixture the
chemical properties of each
Properties of individual substance will remain
unchanged.
Heterogeneous 4. Heterogeneous mixtures may
Mixtures contain 2 or more substances in
different phases of matter, such as
a solid, liquid or gas.
Homogenous mixture
-is a mixture of substances blended
so thoroughly that you cannot see
Other type of individual substances. It has the
same proportions of its components
Mixture throughout a given sample. It is
uniform in composition throughout.
Examples
1. Wine: this substance, which contains water,
sugar, yeast and fruits that are mixed uniformly is
another example of homogeneous mixtures.

2. Preparation of cake : this mixture can be

composed of flour, milk, butter, eggs and sugar but, if
