INTRODUCTION
Nursing is a dynamic ,therapeutic and
educative process in meeting the health
needs of the society,assisting the individual
or family to achieve their potential for self
direction.
Nursing education has braught changes the
behavior of the student nurse so as to
prepare her to play her roles effectively as a
good responsible citizen

The practice of Educational nursing began in
the united states on October 1,1902 when the
initial role of the school nurse was to reduce
absenteeism by intervening with students and
families regarding health care needs related
to communicable diseases.
The nurse educator supports students
success by providing health care
assessment,intervention and follow up for
children with in the school
DEFINITIONS:
Nursing is the protection,
promotion, and optimization
of health and abilities,
prevention of illness and
injury, alleviation of suffering
through the diagnosis and
treatment of human response,
and advocacy in the care of
individuals, families,
communities, and
populations.”

Nursing education imparts scientific and up to
date knowledge in the area of
medical ,social ,behavioral and biological
sciences.

SCOPE OF NURSING EDUCATION
 The literal meaning of scope is range ,field or
opportunity of activity,operation and
application.
 But in the field of education,scope means, “the
breadth ,comprehensiveness and variety of
learning experiences,to be provided in the
educational experiences,to be provided in the
educational process.
Thus the scope of nursing education is very
wide and long.It is almost limitless.

AUXILLARY NURSE MIDWIFERY
PROGRAMME
 It is a nursing programme with the duration of
18 month. It was 1st started at S. Mary’s
hospital taren in punjab in 1951. intially very
few training centers undertook to give this
course, but the financial aid given by the govt.
of India under the scheme for preparing
personnel for primary health center gave a
great impetus to the training programme
GENERAL NURSING MIDWIFERY
PROGRAMME
The indian nursing council at its meeting in 1950
came out with some important decision related
to the future pattern of nursing training in
india.One of the important decision was that
there should be only two standards of training of
nursing and midwifery. So, the general nursing
and midwifery course was started.
Basic B.sc nursing
It is a nursing programme at universal level It
was first started in 1948 in Rajkumari Amrit
kaur college of nursing, New Dehli. Similar
course in B.sc nursing was started by other
universities also. After the comletion of these
major courses, there are other certificate
courses and master degree in nursing and
doctrate in nursing.
Post basic post certificate B.Sc
nursing
The need for higher training for certificate
nurses was stressed by Mudalier
committee , and the two years post basic
certificate b.sc degree programme after
G.N.M was started in 1962.
Post graduation education
Two year formal course in masters of
nursing programme was started in 1959 in
raj kumar amrit kaur college of nursing and
one can choose speciality according to
his/her choice.
M.PHIL NURSING PROGRAMME
M.Phil nursing programme was first
started in raj kumarii nursing on Oct. 15 ,
1986. this is a programme for one & half
year for regular candidates and two years
for part time candidates.
Ph.D PROGRAMME
Ph.D programme was started in few
colleges of nursing P.G.I., College of
nursing CMC Vellore , R.A.K. college of
nursing , Delhi. It is a three year
programme after M.Phil in nursing.
