DEFINITION AND DESCRIPTION OF
TYPES OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Research is the core subject of the Special Science

Program (SSP) that aims to teach the learners the
scientific processes they will need during the conduct
of a scientific investigation.

Research is one of the basic tools in answering questions

a learner wants to know. It can provide useful information
using data that a person can check or verify. Two types of
research: 1) fundamental or known as basic research and
2) applied research.
As a student, give simple
situations in your daily life
where you applied your
skills in research.
Research
Scientific investigation of scientific
theories and hypotheses.
REVIEW OF
PREREQUISITES
Importance of research

It empowers us with knowledge and

efficient learning of new things. It
helps us understand the various
issues of life in a larger manner.
TYPES OF RESEARCH

Basic Research
∙ Also called as pure or fundamental research
∙ Completely theoretical, that focuses on basic principles and
testing theories. It tends to understand the basic law.
∙ Deals with generalization and formulation of theory about
human behavior.
∙ Aligned towards collecting information that has universal
applicability.
∙ Helps in adding new knowledge to the already existing
knowledge.
TYPES OF RESEARCH

Examples of Basic Research titles:

1. A comparison of the Effects of Thermotherapy and

Electrotherapy on Soybean Plants
2. Identification of Leachable from Trametes Versicolor
in Biodegradation Experiments
3. A practical Approach in Glycerol Oxidation for the
Development of A Glycerol Fuel Cell

type of research may vary on the
basis of the level at which research is
carried out and its purpose

One can choose basic research over

applied research when the purpose is to
add certain scientific knowledge

whereas when it is important to identify a proper

solution to the problem under study, applied
research is preferable.
