It is a game played between two teams of five players
each on a rectangular court, usually indoors. Each
team tries to score by tossing the ball through the
opponent’s goal, an elevated horizontal hoop and net
called a basket.
Basketball in the Philippines was introduced by
American teachers when the Philippines became a a
colony of the United States following the Spanish-
American War.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is a men's


professional basketball league in the Philippines
composed of twelve company-branded franchised
teams.

It is a sport or practice of fighting with the fists,
especially with padded gloves in a roped square
ring according to prescribed rules.
In the Philippines, boxing is the most famous
individual sport together with basketball for team
sports. It has brought fame and glory to the
country, with several Olympic medalists,
professional world champions and legendary

It is a game for two teams, usually of six players,
in which a large ball is hit by hand over a high
net, the aim being to score points by making the
ball reach the ground on the opponent's side of the
court.
• It was introduced to the Filipinos by an
American named Elwood S. Brown, the then
Physical Director of the Young Men's Christian
Association (YMCA). It became a popular game
held in backyards and at beaches in the islands.
At first, the Filipinos invented their own rules
for the game.

has competed internationally, billiards has
arguably given the country the most success. Due
to various Filipinos’ triumphant history in the
sport, the Philippines has earned its title as the
pool capital of the world.

It is a game played by two teams of eleven
players with a round ball that may not be
touched with the hands or arms during play
except by the goalkeepers. The object of the
game is to score goals by kicking or heading the
ball into the opponents' goal.
• Football is a popular sport in the Philippines,
although basketball has been the most popular
historically. However, football has a long history
in the archipelago, dating back to more than 100
years ago when Paulino Alcántara Riestra
became the first Filipino and Asian player to
play for a European club.

Sepak Takraw is a sport that is played all throughout
Southeast Asia. It is called sepak raga in Malay, sipa in
Filipino, cau may Iin Vietnamese, and ka-taw in Lao.
The sport is also known as kick volleyball. It is
actually slightly different from volleyball.
In the Philippines, the sport is related with a
native game called "sipà" (or "sipà salama"
among Muslim Filipinos) and along with
traditional martial arts survived the three
century Spanish colonization.

Badminton is a racket sport played by either
two opposing players (singles) or two
opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions
on opposite halves of a rectangular court that
is divided by a net.
In Philippines, it was in the 1920 when British and
American exptriates introduced badminton in the
country. As early as 1950's, the International
Badminton Federation (IBF) recocognized the
Philippines as its 21st member country. Since then,
Filipino's have been playing badminton in
international tournaments.

Bowling is a target sport and
recreational activity in which a
player rolls a ball toward pins or
another target.
The Philippine Bowling Congress Inc. or more popularly
known as Philippine Bowling Congress and PBC was the
governing body for tenpin bowling in the Philippines
from 1977 to 2016. The Philippine Bowling Federation
Inc. PBF replaced it as the appointed member of the
International Bowling Federation (IBF), Asian Bowling
Federation (ABF), and Philippine Olympic Committee
(POC) in 2016.

Taekwondo is one of the most systematic
and scientific Korean traditional martial
arts, that teaches more than physical
fighting skills.
Taekwondo was introduced to the Philippines
through the efforts of Kim Bok Man and Young
Man Park. Grand Master Kim Bok Man arrived in
1970 to continue Park's legacy of propagating
Taekwondo upon the invitation of President
Marcos. Kim continued to pioneer Taekwondo
worldwide and left the Philippines in 1971.

whaff, is a sport in which two or four players hit a
lightweight ball, also known as the ping-pong ball,
back and forth across a table using small solid
rackets.

skills. The name is derived from where the sport

The movements involved in gymnastics contribute

Golf is an individual sport played by hitting a ball
with a club from a tee into a hole. The object is to
get the ball into the hole with the least number of
swings or strokes of the club. Golf is a hugely
popular sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages.
