The NEP committee under Dr Kasturirangan’s leadership
recognises this fundamental differentiator, and has laid
out a far-reaching vision to create learning environments
that are multidisciplinary, that cater to a well-rounded
education for all individuals, and has the immense
potential to transform India’s human capital development.
About 2 crore out of school children will
be brought back into main stream
under NEP 2020.

Centre to be raised to 6% of the GDP.
MHRD renamed as Education Ministry.

• 5+3+3+4 = New Format.


• Higher Education – CAT.
• Teacher Education.
• 5 = (3-8 years) – Foundational.
• 3 = (8-11 years) – Preparatory.
• 3 = (11-14 years) – Middle.
• 4 = (14-18 years) – Secondary.
• NCERT will develop a National Curricular and
Pedagogical Framework for Early Childhood
Care and Education (NCPFECCE) for children
up to the age of 8 .
National Educational Technology
Forum to be created.
A new National Assessment Centre, PARAKH
(Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis
of Knowledge for Holistic Development), will be
set up as a standard-setting body .
• No Rigid Separation between Arts & Sciences, between Curricular and
extra-Curricular activities, between Vocational and Academic streams.
• Vocational integration from class 6 onwards.
• Teachers to be prepared for assessment reforms by 2023.
• Every Child will come out of School adept in at least one Skill.
• Common Standards of Learning in Public & Private Schools
Teacher
Education
• A new and comprehensive National Curriculum Framework for
Teacher Education, NCFTE 2021, will be formulated by the NCTE in
consultation with NCERT.
• By 2030, the minimum degree qualification for teaching will be a 4-
year integrated B.Ed. degree .
National Curricular Framework for School
Education, NCFSE 2020-21, will be developed
by the NCERT.
Robust Teacher Recruitment and
Career Path
• A common National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) will
be developed by the National Council for Teacher Education by 2022,
in consultation with NCERT, SCERTs, teachers and expert organizations
from across levels and regions.

Advantages of New Education Policy 2020

• To make the board exams of classes 10 and 12 easier, the core


competencies have to be tested instead of memorized facts, all
students are allowed to take the exam twice.

• An independent authority to regulate both public and private


schools. There is no rigid separation between educational streams,
extra-curriculum, vocational steam in schools. Vocational education
starting at class 6 with an internship.
Challenges of New Education Policy 2020
• Expensive Education: Under the New National Education Policy 2020,
admission to foreign universities is expected to make the education
system expensive.

• Lack of Human Resources: There is a shortage of skilled teachers in


current elementary education. In such a situation, practical problems are
being seen in the implementation of the system made for elementary
education under the National Education Policy, 2020.

• The Exodus of teachers: Admission to foreign universities will lead to


the migration of skilled Indian teachers.
