History
Zafra is a community block owned by the government of Manila that is
located along Pablo Ocampo St. It belongs to the political boundary of
Barangay 719 under zone 78, fifth district. This block is a typical urban
housing arrangement and is divided by alleys. Throughout years, there
are no significant changes, and it remains a kind of settlement that has
never been developed its potential. However, last December 2021, a
portion of this area was swallowed by a fire making the city’s
government extend their help through subsidy. Unfortunately, the
residents turn no notice of its capability to provide a good urban design
and aggressively recover each house.
Urban Morphology
Over years there are no notable changes within the area. It remains as a
residential in land use. Nevertheless, occupants turn their houses into

the south end of M. Adriatico St. The users of this block are mainly the
residents of Zafra, employees of mixed-development structures as well
as the visitors like strollers, passerby, commuters and other outsiders of
the block.
Location Analysis
1. The boundary of the site is determined through the structures along the two roads in which these structures are mainly in residential
spaces.
2. Zafra’s location has diverse facilities that the people can use however some of the surrounding areas are in high value making the status of
Zafra “left behind” and becomes a sore to visual order.
3. It is adjacent to an intersection in which people as well as their source of activities and livelihood became disturbances to the vehicular
flow of Pablo Ocampo road.
