Case Study Analysis

The Case

 Case/s develop logical thinking skills, searching for relevant


information, analyzing, evaluating facts, and drawing conclusions
needed for decision-making.

 A description using words, and numbers of an actual management


situation. It paints a picture of setting a business decision and takes
the student to the brink of decision without revealing what happened.
The Case Study and Case Analysis

 Case study is a written story that serves as the basis of group


discussion.

 Case Analysis is based on the belief that students in management


education can significantly improve their analytical ability through
studying, analyzing, and discussing actual business scenarios.
Sample Case (short case/caselet)

 Engr. Jesson Garcia, after being employed for ten (10) years, finally
established his own store named Garcia-Salapa Buko Pie at the start
of the year 2019. The store is located beside the National Highway of
Brgy. Pansol, Calamba City, Laguna competing along with the market
leaders in buko pie industry such as the Original’s, Lety’s, and
Collete’s. First quarter went well with a net profit of P30,000 twice
the capital used. But the following two quarters, the store incurred
with a total of P20,000 worth of loss.
Format of Case Analysis

I. Point of View
A position or main character in the case who could best tackle the case issue.

II. Relevant Case Facts


 Analysis of the forces acting on the company or organization which have bearing
on how the case unfolds.
III. Problem Analysis
Introduces the issues the main characters in the case are faced which serve as the
basis for tracking the main case problem.

IV. SWOT Analysis


Main components are internal and external environment analysis.
V. Formulation and Evaluation of Alternative Solutions to the Problem
Possible courses of action which could be taken to solve problems.

VI. Decision/Recommendation
Choosing the best alternative and explain the choice.
VII. Implementation Plan
Outline specific actions that have to be conducted to implement chosen alternative.

VIII. Contingency Plan


Analysis of potential problems and the next best alternative.
Below is the case analysis for Engr. Jesson
Garcia:

I. Point of View
 Engr. Jesson Garcia is the owner of Garcia-Salapa Buko Pie, therefore, Engr.
Jesson is in the position to solve the issue/s of the enterprise.
II. Relevant Case Facts

 The net profit of the first quarter is P30,000.


 Garcia-Salapa Buko Pie is competing along with the market-leaders in buko pie
industry.
 The store is located beside the Nat’l Hi-Way of Brgy. Pansol.
 The store incurred a total of P20,000 worth of cost for 2 quarters.
 Engr. Jesson Garcia started the business on 2019.
 Jesson Garcia is an engineering graduate.
 The business went well in first quarter and went down in the following quarters.
III. Problem Analysis
What business strategy should the business implement to increase its sales/net profit?

IV. SWOT Analysis


Strengths
 Jesson Garcia has 10 years of working experience, therefore, probably he has
working capital to support the business operations.
 The business went well on first quarter, most likely the products were in good quality.
Weaknesses
 Jesson Garcia is an engineering graduate, therefore, maybe he has limited
knowledge in handling business.
 Garcia-Salapa’s capital is P15,000. It may not be sufficient to finance the
enterprise.
 After first quarter, the sales were decreasing, maybe there is a lack of consistency
in the products sold.
Opportunities
 Business is a new entrant, therefore there is a chance to penetrate a new market
capitalizing on consumers’ curiosity.

 The business is located where buko pies are famous and is a tourist-prone area,
Brgy. Pansol, Calamba City is known as the resort capital of the Philippines.
Threats
 The business is competing along with the market leaders in the buko
pie industry which have established a large market share.
 Assuming that most of the customers are from Sta. Cruz or San Pablo
which is located in the south, only a few will be penetrated.

VI. Decision/Recommendation

 According to Pros/Cons Analysis, innovate and differentiating the products by


changing the main ingredient is the chosen best alternative as a strategy to
implement to penetrate a wide range and different market to increase the sales of
the enterprise.
