WHAT IS COMPUTER?
•A computer is a multipurpose electronic
device that can receive, store, process
data and deliver information.

•It is an electronic device design to

manipulate data into more useful form.
DATA
Data defined as a representation of
facts, concepts or instructions in a
formalized manner which should be
suitable for communication,
interpretation, or processing by human
or electronic machine.
DATA
• ANY COLLECTION OF FACTS.
• RAW MATERIALS GATHERED FORM OR
MORE SOURCES.

Examples:
name age birthday
father's name mother's name
address school
INFORMATI
ON
• Information is organized or
classified data which has
some meaningful values for
the receiver.
Characteristics of data:

•Timely
•Accuracy
•Completeness
FUNCTIONALITIES OF
COMPUTER
• TAKES DATA AS INPUT.
• STORES THE DATA/INSTRUCTIONS IN ITS
MEMORY AND USE THEM WHEN REQUIRED.
• PROCESSES THE DATA AND CONVERTS IT INTO
USEFUL INFORMATION.
• GENERATES THE OUTPUT
• CONTROLS ALL THE ABOVE FOUR STEPS.
