Communication is simply defined as the transfer of information
from one place to another.
• Communication is the basis of all relationship we communicate
each other for many reasons.

• Communication Aids are visual support used to make presentation

interesting and effective. It is a great help to present the ideas clearly by
highlighting the significant information.
• Allow children to express themselves in some situations where a
communication chart or book may be inadequate.
• Communication Aids referred to as ACC devices
AAC(Augmentative and Alternative
Communication)
• AAC is a huge range of techniques which support or replace spoken
communication.
• This includes
-gesture -word boards
-signing -communication boards
-symbols -books
As well as voice output communication Aids (VOCAL’S)
There are two types of AAC:

1. Unaided Communication
-Unaided communication does not use additional equipment. Body
language, gesture, vocalization, signing are typically used.
2. Aided Communication
-Aided communication is opposite to unaided communication because aided
communication uses equipment, but this ranges from low-tech to high-tech
methods, with pictures and symbols often used.
Importance of Communication Aids

• Individuals typically used communication aids to solve

communicative challenges in a limited number of situations. Some
individuals need to rely more heavily on AAC due to physical
disabilities, medical complications, or other speech and language
disabilities that limit how much speech they able to produce. These
individuals may find themselves more frequently in situations of not
being able to use speech effectively, and therefore it is worth
inverting in more effective AAC methods.
