Human Growth- Puberty

The Change
The bodies of newborn male and female babies are
very similar.

The sex of baby can only be declared after looking


at their external reproductive organs.

For the next ten years the bodies of boys and girls
continue to be similar.

 Then the changes begin….


Why these changes???
Behind the nose and beneath the brain is an organ
called the pituitary gland which secretes hormones
into the blood.
Why these changes???
At the age of around 10 to 13 in girls
and 12 to 14 in boys, The pituitary
gland secretes increased amounts of
two hormones.

Growth hormone-Increase in length


and body size.

Gonadotrophin-Stimulates the sex


hormones.
Gonadotrophin
Stimulates the sexual hormones.
In female sex hormones are produced in the ovaries.
They are-Oestrogen and Progesterone
In male the sex hormones are produced in the testes or testicles.
This is- Testosterone.
The sex hormones cause the development of secondary sexual
characteristics working along with the growth hormones.

Males Females
Growth of hair on the face, the Growth of hair in the armpits and
armpits and the pubic region. the pubic region.

Voice becomes deeper. Breasts develop.

Growth of penis and testicles. Growth of vagina and uterus.

Pelvis widens.
Puberty-Adolescence
These changes take place over a period of about three years in girls

any may take longer in boys.

When the changes complete each person is capable of reproduction.

This period of change is called puberty.

It is the first half of the adolescence.

In adolescence in addition to becoming sexually mature, a person also

develops adult emotions and social skills.

Want to spend less time with family

Learn to handle mood swings: Take a moment to calm
yourself
Have a time out.
Seek counsel from trusted family or friends
Choose your friends wisely. 
Practice good relationship behaviors
Continue to exercise. 
Eat healthy foods
Be aware that brain changes occur during puberty.
Set priorities
Practice "SMART" goal-setting
Have high emotional intelligence
