and you are able to answer correctly?

Why are you able to answer the question
correctly?

What did you do?

How is being alert helpful in your life?

Can you give a story/experience where being
alert helped you in your life?

What is your favorite fruit? Why?

Why are fruits important to our body?

What do they do to our body? To our
health?

What vitamins can we get from
mangoes?
Kenneth and his three friend picked 124
mangoes from the farm. They divided the
mangoes equally among themselves. How
many mangoes did each of them receive?

Who picked mangoes from the farm?

How many mangoes did they pick?

What did they do with the mangoes?

What are the given facts?

What is the process to be used?

What is the correct number sentence for
the word problem

Can you get the quotient without using
your pencil and paper? How?
Ways to do mental division

Rename the dividend first.
To divide 124 ÷ 4
Think:
(120 ÷ 4) + (4 ÷ 4)
30 + 1 = 31
Thus, 124 ÷ 4 = 31
Therefore, each boy will receive 31 mangoes
each.
640 ÷ 8?

Think of basic division facts.
To divide 640 ÷ 8
Think:
64 ÷ 8 = 8 then, annex the zero/s
in the dividend.
Thus, 640 ÷ 8 = 80
4986 ÷ 9?
What method is the best for this equation? How will you do it?

Rename the dividend first.
To divide 4986 ÷ 9
Think:
(4500 ÷ 9) 4986 – 4500 = 486

500 (to be renamed again)

486 ÷ 9
(450 ÷ 9) + (36 ÷ 9)
50 + 4
Therefore, 500 + 50 + 4 = 554
Thus, 4986 ÷ 9 = 554
If it is easier to think,
4986 ÷ 9 49 ÷ 9 = 5 then 9 × 5 = 45.
then, 49 – 45 = 4
Annex 8 to 4 48 ÷ 9 = 5 then 9 × 5 = 45.
then 48 – 45 = 3
Annex 6 to 336 ÷ 9 = 4

Thus, 4986 ÷ 9 = 554

Camille placed 630 mangoes equally in 7 baskets. How many
mangoes should each basket have?

90
7 630 Think of basic division
facts if the dividend and
63 ÷ 7 = the divisor are
9 compatible numbers
Thus, 630 ÷ 7 = 90 Then annex the zero in the
Answer: There will dividend to the quotient.
be 90 mangoes in
each basket.
Divide 231 by 7. Since we cannot see easily
basic division facts, we
can rename the dividend
231 ÷ 7 in such a way that the
= renamed dividend is
compatible with 7.
(210 ÷ 7) + (21 ÷ 7)
=

30 + 3 Thus, 231 ÷ 7
= 33
33
Divide mentally either by basic
division facts or renaming.

1) 216 ÷ 3

2) 258 ÷ 6

3) 7976 ÷ 8

Is dividing mentally easy?

How is dividing mentally done using basic facts?

What do you do with the dividend and the divisor?

What if there are zeros in the dividend, what will
you do with it?

In renaming the dividend, what do you do with the
dividend?

Do you remember the compatible number method
we studied yesterday?
Renaming dividend is somehow
similar o compatible number method.
Using renaming/compatible number
method in dividing mentally a 4-digit
number by 1-digit divisor will make
division easier.

Divide the class in 4 groups.

Discuss the problem assigned to you.

Without using paper and pencil, you will find the
quotient and write your answers on your show-me-
board.
Group 1 – A: 1 – 3
Group 2 – A: 4 – 6
Group 3 – B: 1 – 3
Group 4 – B: 4 – 6

dividend to make division easy.

2) 246 ÷ 3 5) 6957 ÷ 7
3) 168 ÷ 8 6) 1995 ÷ 7
b. What basic facts should you
remember to find each quotient.
1) 360 ÷ 6 4) 1800÷ 3
2) 420 ÷ 7 5) 2000 ÷ 4
3) 450 ÷ 9 6) 3500 ÷ 5
A. Copy the exercise in your notebook. Think of
the basic facts you should remember o find each
quotient. Give the answers orally.

1) 270 ÷ 9 6) 546 ÷ 6
2) 480 ÷ 6 7) 427 ÷ 7
3) 150 ÷ 5 8) 248 ÷ 8
4) 2400 ÷ 6 9) 3639 ÷ 3
5) 4900 ÷ 7 10) 8462 ÷ 2
B. Divide mentally by renaming
the dividend to make division
easy. How many can you do
orally?

1) 161 ÷ 7 6) 5984 ÷ 8
2) 378 ÷ 9 7) 1431 ÷ 3
3) 195 ÷ 5 8) 1052 ÷ 4
4) 258 ÷ 6 9) 3255 ÷ 7
5) 448 ÷ 7 10) 4986 ÷ 9
Copy the table in your notebook. Complete the table
by dividing mentally. Write BDF if you use the basic
division facts and CN if compatible numbers are used
in division. Then, write the quotient.

1. 568 ÷ 8
2. 420 ÷ 6
3. 238 ÷ 7
4. 1926 ÷ 9
5. 2715 ÷ 5
Solve the following problems
mentally.

1. How many fours are there in 8448?

2. How many nines are there in 1116?
3. If the dividend is 1638 and the divisor
is 7, what is the quotient?
To divide numbers mentally, look at the dividend and
the divisor if they are compatible numbers.

Compatible numbers – when the divisor exactly
divides the dividend without remainder. If the
dividend is not exactly divisible by the divisor,
change it to the nearest number that is exactly
divisible by the divisor or vice versa. Then, divide
without using paper and pencil.

If the dividends and the divisors are compatible
numbers, divide the numbers directly and annex the
zeros in the dividend to the quotient if here are
zeros.

many can you do orally?

valuable cancer protection. If 8
average-sized carrots make a
medium-sized cake, how many carrot
cakes can be made with 3200 carrots?
