• fractions to decimals and percent forms

• decimals to fractions and percent forms

• percent to fractions and decimal forms

Identify which of the following is an example
of fractions, decimals or percentage
1. Telling Time
2. Budgeting money
3. Discounts
4. Comparing prices of same item in a grocery
store(example which is cheaper a kilo of hot-
dogs worth 60 php or 2 kilo of hotdogs
worth 100 php)
5. Slicing a portion of a cake or pizza
6. Measuring a fabric or cloth material
Fraction

is a number composed of numerator

and denominator, both which are
integers. Numerator and denominator
3 vinculum

are both separated by a segment called

fraction bar or vinculum.

Types of Fractions
There are three (3) types of fractions, namely:
 Proper Fractions – These are fractions whose numerator is less than its
denominator. The following are proper fractions:

, , ,
 Improper Fractions – These are fractions whose numerator is greater than or
equal to its denominator. The following are improper fractions:

, ,
Types of Fractions

 Mixed Numbers – These are numbers that consist of a whole number and a fraction.
The following are mixed numbers:

(read as three and one-thirds), (read as one and one-half)

Note: A mixed number is a sum of a whole number and a fraction. Example: 31⁄3 = 3 + 1⁄3.
Decimals

is a number written in dec-

imal notation. The integer and
fraction parts of a decimal
number are separated using a
decimal point.
Percentage

is a number that represents a

number of parts per hundred.
Every percentage has a percent
sign (%) attach to it.
Converting Fractions to Decimals
1. How to Convert Fraction to Decimal
There are two ways on how to convert fractions to decimals:
(i) First, convert the fraction to an equivalent fraction whose denominator is
a power of 10. Then, convert it to decimal.
Examples:

(ii) Perform the usual long division wherein the numerator is the dividend
and the denominator is the divisor.
From previous examples, we have

2. 0.846153846

3. 0.5625
Converting Decimal to Percent
2. How to Convert Decimal to Percent

Rule : Multiply the decimal by 100% . This is equivalent to
moving the decimal point two places to the right and appending
the % sign.
Examples:
1. 0.55 = 55%
2. 0.275 = 27.5%
3. 1.6 = 160%
Converting Decimal to Percent

1. 0.125 = 12.5%

2. 1.712 = 17.12%

2. 0.10112 = 10.112%

3. How to Convert Percent to Fraction

Rule: Divide the given percentage by 100% and simplify to the
lowest term.
Examples:

5. How to Convert Percent to Decimal

Rule: Divide the percent by 100% . This is equivalent to moving
the decimal point two places to the left and dropping the % sign.

(ii) To convert a repeating decimal to a fraction, refer to the examples below.
Examples:
1. Convert the repeating decimal 0.3 = 0.33333… to a fraction.
Solution: Let x = 0. (multiply the equation by 10)
10x = 3.
- x = 0.
9x = 3
