ABRAHAM MASLOW THEORY

-Abraham Maslow, a renowned psychologist, highlighted the elements of the


theory of motivation in 1943.
-His theory is based on human needs and its fulfilment.
-He introduced 'Need hierarchy theory’ on motivation.
-The theory is divided into two categories, i.e. growth needs and deficiency
needs, which are further sub-classified into five needs.
-Safety needs, social needs and esteem needs are in the middle.
-It infers that

“higher level needs cannot evolve until the lower level needs are satisfied”.

-As the needs of human beings are unlimited, whenever one need is satisfied,
another need take its place.
FREDERICK HERZBERG THEORY
Frederick Herzberg is an American psychologist, behavioral scientist
who coined out the concept of job enrichment and two-factor
theory on motivation based on rewards. He attempted to shed more
light on the concept of work motivation.

Key Difference Between Maslow and Herzberg’s Theory of Motivation

To use the two theories together requires a reasonable balance between the
employee`s work life on life outside work such as family and friends etc. The balance
exists for most people, and therefore, it makes sense to use the theories together in
management`s daily work.
