Coping Strategies of Senior High School Students
in the Modular Distance Learning
INTRODUCTION
COVID-19 has severely affected students everywhere in the world. Due to the fear of
infection, government and local authorities immediately closed academic institutions and
tried to find alternative methods to cope with the turbulence. Therefore, the government
introduced modular learning as new normal learning system which caused positive and
negative reactions from the learners.
The participants of this study are 9 out of 49 students of Grade 11-ABM Boulton
students of Narvacan National Central High School who were purposively chosen by the
researchers based on the following criteria: taking up modular distance learning, between
ages 16-19 learners. Since this study employed the case study qualitative research design,
the participants were subjected to in-depth interviews regarding their struggles and their
coping strategies in the new normal learning system.
The researchers will use guide questions that will be supplied to the participants by
providing a copy to each of the responses. The findings and outcomes will be used to make
decisions. The data collection will be followed by interviews with the chosen respondents.
Due to the inclusion of verbal data, it was determined to be the most appropriate strategy
for this investigation. Real-life occurrences are described and narrated. The researchers will
make certain that the respondents are honest and would only give truthful responses to the
questions that are asked.
The research process was done by initially securing the consent of the target
respondents. The researchers explained the purpose of the study. Considering the current
situation, it was emphasized that their participation is voluntary and follows the principle of
anonymity. It was also articulated that no advantage nor harm is accrued from participating
in the study. The link to the electronic survey questionnaire was posted in the group chat of
the class. The students answered the electronic survey questionnaire and then submitted it.
The data were downloaded, organized, and subjected to analysis.
