classroom. It can include schools books, newspapers,
articles, textbooks, and anything that has been
written by someone with experience in the field.

textbooks, in classrooms, on tests, and in each
discipline.

about the content of the discipline, e.g., a
water table is different from a periodic
elements table. It is challenging.

CRITICAL READING
Involves scrutinizing any information that you
read or heard. It also means not easily believing
information offered to you by a text.
Different ways to help you become a
critical reader:
Annotate what you need
Outline the Text
Summarize the text
Evaluate the text
Annotate what you read

There are no clear and

definite guideline to
annotating a text; you can
create your own style.
Text Analysis
looking at the parts of
something to detect patterns

Outline the text

identify the main points of the
writer and list them down,
also you have to identify the
ideas that the writer has raised
to support his/her stand.
  Summarize the text
This will test how much you have understood the text and will help
you evaluate it critically. A summary is usually one paragraph long.

  Evaluate the text

The most challenging part in critical reading.
When you evaluate a text, you question the author's purpose and
intentions, as well as his/her assumptions in the claims. You also
check if the arguments are supported by evidence and if the evidence
are valid and are from credible sources.
Plagiarism
This is using somebody else’s work or ideas without proper
acknowledgment or citation and copying the text without paraphrasing it.

Ways to avoid plagiarism

 Paraphrase - It is rendering the ideas in a text using your
own words, materials are usually shorter than the original
text. It is more detailed than a summary.
 Quotation - It must be identical to the original text. ‘’
