INTERCONNECTING MULTICULTURAL AND GLOBAL LITERACY

be able to teach his/her students to start respecting others
despite various differences; that we are all equal human
beings, and that we are not entitled to discriminate anyone
regardless of our status or culture.
EXTRA CONTENT:
 ETHNOCENTRISM AND CULTURAL RELATIVISM
 Ethnocentrism is "thinking one's own group's ways are superior to others" or "judging
other groups as inferior to one's own” without having any moral reasons.
 Cultural relativism is the view that ethical and social standards reflect the cultural
context from which they are derived. Cultural relativists uphold that cultures differ
fundamentally from one another, and so do the moral frameworks that structure relations
within different societies.

We must teach our students not to be ethnocentric; rather, they should learn cultural
relativism to understand that we all have differences in our cultures and practices which
fundamentally differ from one another, especially in a moral context.
