Marfinio Y. Tan, is a hardworking man and always

willing to utilize new ideas. He is just an ordinary fish
farmer and because of his dedication and
commitment to this business venture, he became
SFFAII President (2006-2011)
Rodrigo E. Rivera, Sr., Chairman and CEO of the RD Corporation
and 49 subsidiaries. Known to his relatives as “Ruding,” he is fondly
called by his close friends and associates as “Rudy,” He completed
his secondary education in Marbel, South Cotabato. Rudy dreamed
to be a doctor. However, he realized that his parents could not
afford it, so he took up a Bachelor of Science in Commerce course
at the Notre Dame University in Cotabato City graduating in l965.
His sterling qualities of hard work, honesty, and humility earned
him awards and commendations and the respect of his
subordinates, peers, and superiors. He began his fishing operations
by partnering with a fishing operator from Gensan in l982, and in
the following year struck out on his own. The RD Fishing Industry

with her complement of service and light boats operating in
Sarangani Bay and the Moro Gulf. A multi-awarded businessman,
the most important of which was the Entrepreneur of the Year
Award by Ernst and Young in 2005, and recognized for his

Raising cow, goat, chicken/fish raising

Beef meat is one of the

popular meats in the
market. Filipinos are heavy
consumers of this protein-
rich food.
Breeds
The following are commonly raised today:

• Goat raising

Goats are easier to raise because they simply live on grass and leaves of
plants like ipil-ipil, kangkong, camote, and tamarind. They are managed
for the production of milk, meat and wool. Among goats, major health
problems are internal and external parasites coccidiosis (in kids before
and after weaning) and pneumonia. A good health care program includes
vaccination for most diseases and is established between the grower and
veterinarian. In the Philippines, goat meat is relatively more expensive
than chicken, pork, or beef, Goat farming has a high potential for profit.
Goats, like cattle, may be caged in a pen or allowed to graze on a large
parcel of grassy land.
Needs in goat raising
In launching a goat enterprise, consider the
resources you have to devote to the
project. Personal attitudes like interest
and determination, availability of land,
machinery, equipment, labor, capital,
and marketing/selling are the things
that should matter. Also, there should
be a profitable outlet for goat products.
Housing for goats

A good housing for goats is very essential as they

are prone to pneumonia when regularly exposed
to rain. A goat house must be well ventilated,
clean, and dry. There should be separate pens
for lactating does, dry does, kids and bucks. A
fenced loafing area should be provided
complete with feeding racks and water troughs.
Feeding the goats

Goats are known to relish Para grass, star grass,

nippier grass, guinea grass, and centrosema
among other grasses and legumes. Goats like
other livestock, require the same nutrients such
as protein, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins,
and water. During the rainy season, keep the
goats in their pen. Feed them with cut grass and
salt. Salt makes goats keep a steady appetite
making them grow faster and produce more milk.
Cattle / Cow
• Cattle, or cows and bulls, are the most common type of
large domesticated ungulates. They are a prominent
modern member of the subfamily Bovinae, are the
most widespread species of the genus Bos, and are
most commonly classified collectively as Bostaurus.

• Jersey cows are not a new breed they have been

around for more than 200 years. Their famous golden
yellow coats can usually be found on many a dairy farm
throughout many countries in the world. They are very
curious cows and have to know what is going on around
them. Their curiosity has been known to get them into
many a scrape or two. They are lively active cattle that
are a joy to have around the farm although the bulls can
be a bit mean tempered at times.
• The Aberdeen Angus, sometimes simply
Angus, is a Scottish breed of small beef
cattle. It derives from cattle native to the
counties of Aberdeenshire and Angus in
north-eastern Scotland. The Angus is
naturally polled and solid black or red,
though the udder may be white.

• The Brahman is an American breed of

zebuine beef cattle. It was bred in the
United States from 1885 from cattle
Kankrej, originating in India, imported at
various times from the United Kingdom,
from India and from Brazil; these included
Gir, Guzerá, Indu-Brasil and Ongole stock.
Rabbit
• Considered to be a "small game" animal, Rabbit
and Hare have been hunted and raised for
consumption since ancient times throughout the
world. Today, the Rabbit that is sold in retail food
stores as fresh or frozen is a domesticated animal
raised for the purpose of being processed into food.
As a meat, Rabbit is fine-textured and almost all
white, with a flavor and appearance similar to
chicken meat. Hare however, is very dark in color
and provides a stronger flavor that tastes dark meat
from wild game. When selecting, choose a small,
younger Rabbits or Hare that weigh from 2 to 3
pounds in order to provide a tenderer and milder
flavored meat.
• The meat may be processed as whole "saddles"
which include the meat from the animal chest or
"saddle" still connected to the legs, all in one piece
for roasting. Cuts of Rabbit or Hare are more readily
available which have been "jointed" so the body has
been cut into 5 or 6 pieces which includes the
saddle, which may be split in halves, 2 forelegs and
2 hind legs. For preparation, the most popular
method to cook Rabbit or Hare is by frying or oven
roasting. Cooked in a similar manner to chicken,
Rabbit can be served whole as the main meal or
prepared for appetizers, stews and salads.
Below you will find a few reasons why you should consider adding rabbit meat to your diet, raise some rabbits in
your lots, yards, or pastures. Become closer to your food supply know what you eat!

more than any other meat.
6. Rabbit meat with the many health
benefits does not have a strong flavour
and is comparable to chicken but not
identical.
