IEC 60870-5-104 Configuration - Overview
The ADVC combines the functions of a protection relay and switchgear
controller into a single intelligent electronic device (IED)

Ultra Cubicle with a flexVUE Panel

•The controller provides a user friendly operator interface that allows

configuration and control of the switchgear.

•Schneider’s proprietary switchgear operating software WSOS5 also

provides an interface to configure and control the switchgear via a
personal computer.

IEC 60870-5-104 Configuration - Overview

Electricity Supply Utilities frequently link the controller into their SCADA systems as a Remote Terminal
Unit (RTU)

To make this possible the controller provides:

Compact Cubicle with a flexVUE Panel • Mounting space for a radio or modem in the control cubicle.

• Power Supply for the radio or modem in the control cubicle.

• Embedded protocol handler for the required SCADA protocol in the controller firmware.

IEC 60870-5-104 Configuration Procedure

IEC 60870-5-104
There is a procedure required in order to enable the ADVC to
communicate with a master station via IEC 60870-5-104.

Control Centre
1. Ensure that IEC 60870-5-101/4 and TCP/IP are available

2. Configure the communications settings for the TCP/IP port.

3. Assign IEC 60870-5-101/4 to the TCP/IP port.

4. Configure the IEC 60870-5-104 settings.
